with one exception i don't usually name my snakes but i now have a second snake with a Monica and if truth be told he named himself.
i have always had trouble distinguishing between snakes like checkered's unless there was some obvious difference like size or shade or something, and there is one such in the group from the albino checkered ,he is smaller darker and never sheds as smoothly as his sib's he usually has some remnant from his last shed somewhere on his body. his lesser size no doubt stems from his habit of ignoring the feeding dish and waiting in ambush for one of his siblings to come past with a piece of food in their mouth and then pouncing, his tenacity is unbelievable he just will not give up until he has stolen some of the targeted meal
what else could i call him but bandit.
But today came the best part of the story, for some reason bandit has decided that he will now behave like the rest of his group and eat from the dish, he had just picked himself a large chunk and backed off to enjoy it when as if by some prearranged plan most of his siblings mobbed him and would give him no peace i have to admit this gave me much fun and a feeling of satisfaction seeing the biter bit, the strange thing is the the rest of the group have always been slow sedate eaters not given to chasing others for their food.
its been said on this forum that we might be underestimating just how intelligent the garter snake actually is and i go along with that totally BUT a group storing up resentment and then exacting revenge when the chance came surely not  que the music from the outer limits.
why tell me why would anybody wish to keep other snakes when these fascinating creatures are available
