Hello! I am a newbie and hope I am posting in the right place.

When I was a child my father brought home a small snake for me as a pet. "Jake the Snake" and I bonded instantly! Jake only grew to about 12 inches long and had him for many many years until he escaped one day. Jake lived mostly on worms.

I would like to get another one of these small snakes but I am not sure where I can get one. I live in NE Ohio and attend reptile shows looking for another Jake.

One reptile vendor told me I was looking for a "decatur snake". I googled it but no hits. Is there a snake called Decatur? Someone else said a "brown snake".

I am sure Jake was a garter because the way he looked.

Please advise what kind of snake I am in search of...

Thanks so much!!

sounds like a brown snake, also known as DeKays snake. they are mainly worm eaters and get about a foot long full grown. you probably won't find them at reptile show. Wayne (Infernalis) has them. h e might be able to help you acquire another one =)

They also enjoy slugs. Wayne even has his eating pinkies.

Wayne is definitely the guy. The Dekayi's are wonderful. I have one as well and they do love their slugs! Mine has also adapted to worms but still...
