By the way, why is that snake swimming around in a Margarita?

Or did I just answer my own question?

Is it considered cruel, or just unsporting to use a combination of sticky tape and blue tack to keep the little buggers in position long enough to take a photograph with the aperture wide open to improve the depth of field?

I think it's unsporting for Udo to use such an awesome snake and then to take such a good photo.:D
T.atratus-simply stunning.;)

I was planning to try with the marcianus, but I see that now I need to roll out the big guns... Wish me luck because the cuitzeoensis are both still skittish, I may stand a chance with Vlad though if Char holds him. And if that doesn't work I'll have to roll out the blue tack.

I´m sorry Chris,
I know presenting a really rare specy, morph or specimen is hard to beat,
so I decided not to use this picture:

Do they both eat our do they share a stomach? I find twins gone wrong morbidly fascinating.

They´ve shared one stomach but ate nothing.
As sadly most do, these died three weeks after birth.

Oh, sorry to hear that. They were very pretty though.

Glad you didn't use that photo Udo, although it does give me an idea for a photo with just a common snake. Blue tack and sticky tape at the ready. :)

BTW - what species is the snake you did submit Udo?

That would be the AWESOME T.atratus
Thamnophis atratus atratus - Santa Cruz Gartersnake (http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/t.a.atratus.html)

Stunning snakes those T. atratus.
My list is increasing, as is the need for increased viv space. When we move houses next year I can see my office having shelves of books down one wall, and racks of vivs down the other wall, with a desk and computers squeezed in the corner.

Just decide which one of the captions is your favourite and ignore all the others. Whoever wrote you fave gets your vote.

You don't. You vote for the person, not the entry.

Haha. If I had the ability to, I'd vote for both. I love Kat's picture a lot... It's just the tongue in you're picture that I like. Snakie tongues are so cute.

That´s a stunning clear poll with sadly few votes so far,
but it shows that the impression of a picture could be more important that it´s quality or brilliance.
Kat, your foto is fitting the theme so well!
By the way: if you´ll win, you will become the 30´th winner of the photo contests:
another jubilee for our fabulous forum category.
But second, you´ll win the honor to name the theme of our 60´th photo contest ;)

Exactly. Said it before. The theme is the most important part. Which is good cause not everybody has insane macro-capable cameras.

But of course it helps if the photo is good too.:D

I gave up using an SLR years ago because they were just too bulky to carry around. Having snakes in the house makes me realise that one use for my old Canon EOS 5 would be macro photography... I can always scan the negatives like the old days. But if I pull the EOS out of storage I'd end up wanting to buy a better macro lens for it.

If I'm honest... I voted for Chris' purely based on the fact that it was a picture of my baby boy and I'm a very proud mum. Couldn't help myself, I just think he's the handsomest thing on no legs.
