I was wondering when you are feeding pieces of fish fillet to baby garter snakes is there a certain amount that you need to feed them or can you give them as much as they want? On Wednesday I fed my baby garter snakes pieces of fish fillet and after there were about 3 of them where the food stood towards the middle of their body and felt hard and round like maybe a marble but then today it was smaller. Is it anything to worry about? Also just curious do garter snake tails ever grow back? My female garter has a short tail like only an inch long if not shorter.

Do not feed them a lot. It can kill them. Start out with, maybe, 3 pieces smaller than their head every day, and raise the amount by one every other week.

I chop the fish up so much it's like a mush, the babies turn into nice uniform little plumpers.
The tails never grow back. http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

I agree with what's been said. Smaller more frequent meals is best for babies.
I think some babies don't have their gut ready for very large meals. Best to take it slow.
I've lose a few babies to over feeding of fish.
