My honey was out at a friends house doing some work this evening. On his way home he called and said I saw the BIGGEST NW ever! I asked, "Are you bringing it home?". He said no.... Well he got home and said would you clean out my coffee mug? I open it and there is the BIGGEST NW I've ever seen!!!! I don't know if we will keep her though, we just don't have the space. If we keep her her name will be Kendra, from The Cleveland Show.

She's probably pretty old! Pretty girl.

That's what I was thinking. Or she is just really over wait. She was found in a field know to be filled with mice.

She actually doesn't look overweight. She's a little chunky, possibly gravid (her rear looks a bit big)

she's lovely - congrats

she is a beautiful snake, if she is old she will be increasingly less able to avoid predators as time goes by, it would be lovely for you to find room room for her to live out her life in peace and safety.
So no pressure there then kat:D i have a leaning towards wrinkly's, don't know why that should be

She's awesome looking, I've never seen a NW that big. Well, never seen one at all really except in pictures but.... Still, very nice find! Hope you can keep her.

I really want to keep her, but I have other plans. I need to find homes for the babies, I'm doing the project with Chantel, and then I'm getting a male puget. I just don't have the space right now. I wish I did. She is very cool, and really calm too.

kibakiba
09-20-2011, 05:57 PM
I'd take her, but I don't think Mama would want the competition... ;)

katach
09-20-2011, 06:01 PM
Maybe I can trade you while I have Snakey?

kibakiba
09-20-2011, 06:03 PM
Sure! You can't keep him, though!!! :p He's my oldest snake. My special boy :D

katach
09-20-2011, 06:08 PM
No, just a temporary trade. :)

RedSidedSPR
09-20-2011, 06:10 PM
So are one of you keeping her or not? Your trading meaning Chantel will get the big girl, but is she gonna keep it? It's too late in the year for temporary keeps.

katach
09-20-2011, 06:15 PM
I think I'm keeping her. When Chantel and I do the breeding project with our red stripes, she will snakey sit Kendra until I bring Snakey back. That sound good Chantel?

kibakiba
09-20-2011, 06:27 PM
Kat and I live close-ish. Driving distance, so technically, it's not ;)

RedSidedSPR
09-20-2011, 06:27 PM
Awesome. Give her a nice retirement home.:)

How long?

kibakiba
09-20-2011, 06:28 PM
Yep that's fine! My mom wouldn't want me keeping her forever anyways, so it all works out good. :D

Kat might have Snakey for a month or two, it depends of when he gets his business done.

katach
09-20-2011, 06:31 PM
I'll make sure she's a good eater. She's in quarantine right now. I haven't seen any mites, and she looks to be in good health. I'll keep a close eye on her though.

Last night, before bed, I checked on Kendra. In the tank I saw a huge slimy lump of stuff. I thought oh great she's giving birth! I opened the tank and with a glove I pulled out the clump of slimy stuff and aspen substrate. It was the biggest pile of poo I've ever seen. I have no idea what she has been eating but it was a dark brown chunk and a whitish almost translucent glob, and lots of pee. Any thoughts on what she could have been eating?

guidofatherof5
09-23-2011, 12:42 PM
Any photos? :D

katach
09-23-2011, 12:47 PM
Unfortunately, no. It was late and my camera was buried. I didn't want the mess left in there overnight either. Bill thinks it was a large slug she ate. I have never seen whole slug poo, so I'm not sure.

Hard to tell without a photo.
If a large slug was ingested then the evidence would lead me to believe your husband has the right idea.;)

There are tons of slugs where she was found, but there are also lots of mice and frogs.

So we decided that Kendra was not happy in captivity. We released her yesterday exactly where she was found. She slithered happily away.

I've only had a few snakes that had to be released.

katach

She was an old girl. I guess change was too much for her. She'll be much happier back in the wood shed she came from.

Yeah she was cool looking. The biggest NW I've ever seen. She's on a friends property, maybe I'll see her again someday.

kibakiba
09-26-2011, 06:06 PM
It's nice that you cared enough to let her go when she started to look uncomfortable in captivity. I was a little worried that she might not enjoy being over at my house, since it's probably a big change from your house.

katach
09-26-2011, 06:52 PM
I'm sure she would have loved it at your house. :) That is if she would have taken to captivity.

Haha, old snakies always get treats. Like Snakey, I hold him twice a week and he gets half a worm when I've got him. I don't know how long he'll be alive, so every day is one that's cherished. I'm hoping to have him stay alive for at least 3 more years.

I would have to resort to tubs or something!=/ No room at all!

Once I get all my snakes living together, I'll have a 20gal a 10gal and a different house, then you know ill get more, but I cannot.

I hope they sell for ya though, they're awesome! Biggest freakin' NW babies i've ever heard of..

katach
09-26-2011, 09:36 PM
She was a regular colored girl. She didn't like captivity, so we let her go back to where she came from yesterday. My Blade is a red, so hopefully Chantel's red and mine will produce some nice reds.

kibakiba
09-27-2011, 07:53 AM
If you think it's best, do it. Just keep in mind that they need a lot of time to find where they're going to go when winter hits.

RedSidedSPR
09-27-2011, 07:55 AM
Exactly... I would think if you let it go exactly where you found it, it should be ok, bit dont go by me, cause I really don't know.

snakehill
09-27-2011, 08:45 AM
We have a small pond behind our house. Should I let her go in or near the water? She appears to be very unhappy! Keeps trying to get out of her tank! My radix girls will be here any minute now (better be soon! I am getting nervous!) I would rather concentrate on them. Don't know what to do!

RedSidedSPR
09-27-2011, 08:47 AM
Is that where you found her?

I think It would be ok to release her, but ONLY where you food her.

snakehill
09-27-2011, 08:53 AM
I found her at the farm that we rent (a mile down the road!) They will be building a Tractor Supply store close by there soon! My backyard would be better because it's mostly woods with a pond and there are acres and acres of land that will never be developed! It would be a better home in my opinion! ;)

RedSidedSPR
09-27-2011, 08:58 AM
It's not about the best home, it's about being able to find their winter place....

I don't want to say anything like I know, cause I don't. Wait for someone elses expert opinion...

kibakiba
09-27-2011, 09:28 AM
Where you found her is best. You aren't supposed to put snakes where you didn't find them, they can introduce bad genes, technically.

snakehill
09-27-2011, 09:29 AM
No one really likes NWs. They don't take up much space, though. Chantel! How could anyone not like them!!! I would love to have a couple but wouldn't want to have to ship them so far! Iowa is far enough!;)

kibakiba
09-27-2011, 09:32 AM
I could ship them anywhere in the US without worrying too much, it's the cost and lack of money that prevents me from being able to even get a box, let alone any deli cups.

snakehill
09-27-2011, 12:15 PM

It can also introduce pathogens into a population.

snakehill
10-01-2011, 09:08 AM
Well I hope she likes living behind Tractor Supply!!!!! I just realized that we are moving to a new barn this weekend and in order to release her in the spring I would have to trespass!

RedSidedSPR
10-01-2011, 09:11 AM

snakehill
10-01-2011, 09:13 AM
Well! You know how I feel about it!!

RedSidedSPR
10-01-2011, 09:16 AM
I trespass everyday, if I had to do it to release a snake I sure as heck would.

Although it's different where I do it, cause there's no life anywhere... Just some dude with a 12 gauge.

snakehill
10-01-2011, 09:35 AM
So I'll release her back to Tractor Supply, lawn mowers, dogs, cats, horse hooves, the kids that just moved into the front house, the road, hawks, very few places to hide! I think I covered everything!

RedSidedSPR
10-01-2011, 09:44 AM
Well then, if you don't want to release her, guess you'll have to keep her. For now.
