Ah man, my snakes never soak, and I've never seen a wild garter I'm water!!
Hopeless.:D
Maybe.

Ah man, my snakes never soak, and I've never seen a wild garter I'm water!!
Mine don't either. They do tend to enjoy burying themselves in damp moss or substrate from time to time and they sure like to take a dump in the water right after I clean and disinfect it and give them fresh. Without fail, they drink the fresh water and 5 minutes later, it's full of "spit"
Seen plenty of wild garters in water. Concinnus' spend lots of time in water, sitting on the surface in vegetation hoping to ambush a frog or near the waters edge basking. In captivity, mine just don't have anything to do with water other than taking a crap in it.

Well, you've seen plenty of garters jn the wild period. I haven't.:p I can't figure out of this would be possible... Shucks.

"Bathing snakes"
and thatīs all I believe to be able to offer...
but I have an idea

"This month's theme, selected by Infernalis is "Swimming Snakes ", showing your own garter snakes or wild ones in water."
This was the description of the theme for this month. I think if we had a video contest it would be easier to show them swimming, but with a still shot any swimming snake is going to look like they are soaking. :)

Maybe Iīm thinking about the wrong meaning of swimming,
because Iīm a swim coach:p
Never meant that the photos doesnīt fit to the theme!
This is too blury:

but I would like to enter a photo of a snake without ground contact.
 But we can't see it's tail. How do we know it's not holding on to the edge of the pool with it's tail? :D :D :D
I'm going to have to persuade our marcianus to swim, she's not shown any real desire for water so far. Sure, she'll slither through her pool if it's the shortest route from A to B, but she doesn't stop in it for long. I'm not even sure she's drinking, maybe she's a secret drinker.
I have two weeks to catch her in the water to enter this months contest.

you can put a couple fish into the water bowl, the snake would be back trying to see if there is more after they are all gone

Put a couple live feeder fish in there! She'll go in!

Yes. It's terrible. The worst thing is my cameras SD card (memory) is full. I've deleted any pics/vides that can go, but I can only fit about 20 more pictures in my pitiful little SD card, but can't empty them onto computer/zip drive... And to think, I just got a 500 gb hard drive. Lotta good that did.

I think it's just a simple cut and paste error when you copied the image URL. The URL you've used is:
http://http://www.thamnophis.com/thamphotos/showfull.php?photo=9861
So you've got an extra http:// in there. If you post using the URL without the extra http:// at the start of the image address you should be fine.

thanks for help, but no go. Deleted the extra http://, but still nothing. Sorry everyone for hijacking thread with this!

You didn't hijack anything.
Try right clicking tha actual photo, hit "copy image location" and paste in in the image logo "http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/images/green/editor/insertimage.gif
I use Imageshack, rather than the forums gallery, cause my pics are too highquality for it.

argh, didnīt work either. Thanks for your help though. Iīm gonna try and figure this out before I completely ruin the thread though :) In the meantime, check out my gallery for the photo of the bathing serpent! ;)

Don't worry about the thread.
Try Imageshack.com I really dont know anything about the gallery here as I don't use it.
Imageshack you don't have to sign up... Just upload it, do the right click thing I mentione, or hit "share" or whatever and get the forum link.

testing imageshack:

looks like a broken link, but once you leftclick, it directs you to the photos URL.
Weird!
Anyone got an idea of what Iīm doing wrong?

You're uploading it straight from you computer to each site? I have no idea

What I did different was that i copy/pasted the "forumcode", instead of the url in my browser.
Thank you so much for your help, much appreciated.

Iīm counting on it:) I like this theme, since Iīm fascinated by their aquatic habits. Litterature often makes them out to be swimming every other second, but in captivity they seldom go in the water. (Unless thereīs something yummy swimming around in there of course ;)), or if temperature/humidity fluctuates to greatly.

Between the theme and an entry stands the set up for the photo session!
http://www.thamnophis.com/thamphotos/data//500/medium/DSCF0109.JPG
Iīll have a look at the Photo Contest Hall of Fame (http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/thamnophis-contests/8230-photo-contest-hall-fame.html) to see if I could choose a new theme.
