Hey, so our baby classic corn snake got out of her tank a couple days ago. We found her about 24 hours later curled up in a shoe in the bottom of a hamper full of stuff that was going to the D.I. Six months ago, my wandering garter escaped, and was discovered in the door jtrying to make his way to the outside world (maybe that's why he's a "wandering" garter lol ha ha yeah). Amazingly, he wasn't crushed when I opened the door..

So, I'm wondering, have any of you had escapees? And what are some of the random places you found them?

Three of my garters have had tendencies to escape.

Green Girl and Blackie both had a habit of bolting out of the enclosure whenever the lid was opened. And, of course, it was always a hassle trying to chase them down and get them back in. They were both wild caught, so due to multiple escape attempts on their part, as well as a high level of hostility, both of them were released into the wild.

Scarlett has escaped three times so far, and all three of them were because she bolted for the top of the enclosure when I had the lid off. And, of course, it would be a hassle trying to chase her around the snake room, and she would get extremely hostile when I caught her again. Poor girl was traumatized on all three occasions. I've decided to see if my two-week vacation will calm her down some, but if not, I think she'll be going out to the woods with all her cousins.

Escape#1:
Cotton-She got out during the night she somehow found the only weak spot in her old enclosure. We found her in a flower pot next to the window.

Escape#2:
Willow-She got out during the night because the lid was not replaced properly. We found her in our bedroom on the xbox 360 controller.

Escape#3
Un-named baby: Baby got out because we underestimated it's climbing ability! We dug through a huge pile of stuff we were donating the next day. We found the baby on the enclosure counter laughing at us an hour and half later.

They are really testing the security measures that are in place.

My only escapee was a tragedy. Noodle, my ribbon snake escaped when the lid weights were not placed back on properly. He was also found in a shoe (my husband's work boot) though not until after a few days of wearing it.:(

Well I kinda have a story. It just happen not even 10 minutes ago and lasted about 20mins. Well I look in Pheobes tank and open the lid and saw nothing and there was no reaction from her at all. I couldnt figure out how she got out. I was stumped but what did I do ....I got down on the floor and looked under the couch and behind my desk and behind everything in the living room and I was getting ready to look in the kitchen. But I thought that for some reason I was missing something in the tank. I dont know what made me look again but I did and then I remembered that someone in another thread was talking about that there snake likes to tunnel in the Coco-Fiber. I forgot all about that earlier and nothing looked like it was desturb at all so I didnt think about that . Well I knew that Pheobe liked to dig . I lifted up her new caprisun box I just replaced today when I was cleaning her tank and what did I find? Pheobe laying under the box and dug a good size spot under it that I dont even know how she got down there cause like I said, Nothing looked to be disturbed. Whew. Thank goodness .Im glad that I found her. She actully wasnt missing. Now Maybe she was testing me....lol Maybe thats where Pozer(one of her babies I am keeping) gets his goofyness. His mom is a joker and so Pozer has her sense of humor. lol. I know it wasnt a real exscape but man did it feel like it. That is why I think that they are smart and sneaky. Thank you for listening to my story and I hoped that you enjoyed it.

Well Pozers In the other room but I did bring Pozer out and held him next to the tank earlier so maybe it was planned then....lol So you know hell hear about it later. I still dont have a lid that fits the top. So I still have a 20 gallon lid on a 10 gallon tank but it is sercured down . I tried finding a lid this weekend but it seems that no one what to sell lids cause all I see is tanks...lol that suck I cant find one. Maybe I sould as for a tank lid in the wanted section .

It seems like my snakes do that all the time. I thought Speckles got out, I couldn't find him anywhere. I even took everything out and placed everyone elsein a small tupperware container while I looked for him. I dumped all the substrate out and still couldn't find him. When I gave up and started putting everything back, he had his head peeping out of a log like "huh? What's going on? What did I miss?" All the others were looking at me like "Seriously? All this because of a joke Speckles decided to play on mom?? Nice going Speckles! You made her stuff us in a container!"

Ya one of the babies ( I dont remember what one) did that when they were not even a week old. I had a piece of bark in ther and one of the babies curled himself up inside and when I was taking things out to feed them I was counting then and only came up with 6 and I ddnt get to the point of looking but I was confused. When I wen to set the bark down I saw the babie looking out doing the same thing. man they are sneaky....lol

I do head counts a couple times a day. I always find Maria under the aspen in the corner of the tank. One of the babies is like that too. It's always the same spot.

I usually do too but Pheobe is such a big snake and when she had the other box in there I could actully see under it after she tunneled kinda but this time is wasntmoved up so thats why I thought she got out. lol

My adult ALWAYS is under aspen. Whether he's in a hide or not, he's also under aspen.

I'd love to do that bedding for my babies (THAT would be cute) but it's too risky the way i feed them.

Lol. My baby corns like to scare me by disappearing into the substrate as well. Tore one of the tanks apart frantically searching for the newest addition, and she launched out of where she was and struck at me about five times. Lol. She's kind of crabby.
The smaller of my two baby Easterns appeared to be MIA this morning. He had wedged himself deep inside of a crevice in a piece of log. So, I gently misted him thinking he would be annoyed and come out. That he did, shot right out, striking at the water, striking at me, striking at his big brother... didn't think he was such an angry guy, but he's blue at the moment, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt :)

Ha ha sure. The other four corns are chill and lazy, almost like ball pythons lol. This new one struck at me twice before I decided to buy her. My room mate was pissed :) Hope she calms down a bit before she's 4 1/2 feet long...
That little Eastern never struck before.. it was actually kind of cute, his pitifully tiny self trying to be scary... :)

I wouldn't want my entire collection pissy, but at least one or two is fun.:D

I have 3 baby garters, one of them is like that. He's really calm, but if you hold hin too long, startle him, set him somewhere he doesn't like (everywhere:p) he gets upset.

It's hard to be intimidating when your 10inches long.

And it's extremely hard to intimidate when you're 5 inches long... Squirt never learned that she never scared me. I really miss her and her little attitude :(

I missed something (not surprising, I haven't been diligent in reading posts recently) Not to bring up a sad story but what happened to Squirt?

kibakiba
08-23-2011, 04:51 PM
I was letting her slither around outside, and I was talking to my mom, and looked at her, then Squirt was gone. We looked all over the yard for almost an hour and couldn't find her. She had an attitude that would help her survive in the wild, so I'm confident that she's still alive, but I miss her greeting me with a strike through the glass every morning. It happened a couple months ago.

Oh, now I remember. I thought you had found squirt but it must have been pumpkin I was mixing her up with?

kibakiba
08-23-2011, 05:07 PM
Yeah, we found Pumpkin, but not Squirt. I got a new snake, Hades, who might just be a bit meaner than Squirt, though... But I don't think I'll ever forget my evil little munchkin. :D

Well, I'm sure she's happier out in the wild since she doesn't have me constantly watching her and talking to her. ;) Maybe that is what drove her crazy... Haha.
