Okay, here's a question! What is up with all members that have never posted anything on the forum even after being members for several years? Are you all shy? I am just curious! Could we hear from some of you?? Thanks ;) Non scammers only please! If there are any!

Many of those are computer generated accounts put there by "spam bots" with the intent to advertise.
They may have posted, but spam is blocked from the view of members.

Some could be duplicate accounts, as well. For example, if someone creates an account, but because it isn't immediately activated, they create another. Or maybe someone forgets their password, and creates another account.
Another possibility: some of the threads only allow forum members access. Album pictures the same way: someone must be a forum member to actually see them. So it is entirely possible that someone might have created an account just to look at members' album pictures, or to access information not viewable to the public.
A few might even be people who sign up intending to post, but then never do for whatever reason.
But I'd wager that the vast majority are spambots.

There has to be at least ONE member that is just shy! :D I am talking about members that view posts! Why would scammers bother to read posts!

That's why, snakehill. People could just sign up for the reason of viewing things on here, that they couldn't without an account.

Yeah, true, but not all.
I hear ya snakehill. There are a few who just don't.
So are looking at "who's online" and seeing that they're viewing posts?
kibakiba
08-14-2011, 02:01 PM
... No... People who want information on snakes or are curious as to what the posts say that they cannot read, or pictures they cant see, join the forum. Or, they joined with the intent to ask something, but found what they were looking for by searching the forum.

Kidding. But, I like to see what people are reading, it can bring up some good information.

if you are a member who may feel a little intimidated posting on the site, perhaps you feel that your knowledge isn't enough or your opinions will be ridiculed or that your really an outsider, well your not, and you don't have to be an expert to be a part of the site, i am the perfect example, there can't be too many on here who have kept garters for as long as me [since the early sixty's ]
but i realized when i found the site just how little i knew, and that young people a fraction of my age were so much more knowledgeable than me, is that a problem for me?you bet its not, i learn new things all the time i tend to leave the medical and husbandry questions to those more knowing than me, and make my contributions by asking questions and giving encouragement where i can, there's no reason you cant do similar, the big plus is you end up with friends from all over the world come on give it a go, tell us a little about yourself, and we'll take it from there

We have some member that join with one intent purpose. Maybe help for a sick snake. Once they have the info. they wanted, they are gone.
I see other members just reading posts. These people may feel more comfortable just doing that. I understand that position since I'm an introvert also.;)
It's all these types of people that make up this fine community/family.
I for one think it's great that our forum can help many of these people even if we never hear about it.

I lurked for a couple of weeks. But the garter snake infestation in my yard became so "bad", I absolutely needed confirmation on what I was dealing with. Thanks to this forum, I conquered my ophidiophobia, relocated almost two dozen wild garters to the woods, and have kept four different ones (Green Girl and Blackie were released later).

Jason's specific instructions have been to ignore accounts with profile infractions... there was a period of time right when the Captcha got hacked that all of the hobby solutions sites were getting flooded with accounts from overseas with profile spam included.

One of my favorite spammers was a "woman" who posted on the Issues, Etc. facebook page soliciting for cybersex. I responded to her, "If you're trying to attract guys here, you should brag about how you like your men orthodox and liturgical."

When I originally signed up, I only made a couple posts, but continued to check in from time to time. Now I check in daily (if not more), and I still don't post a ton (only when I feel I have something to contribute or ask), but do post occasionally. I guess I'm more of a reader than a writer.

As was stated before, the majority of them are spammers. They created an account, tried to post spam, then of course, they were dealt with. Every time that happens, you end up with a user account name with zero posts.

Bingo.
In third world countries, there are people who get paid a nickle a post, just to join forums and place ads for iPhones, sneakers, etc...
On my forum there was a bizarre evening when google, yahoo and ask jeeves were all "crawling" (reading content for search engines) and the log showed over 1000 guests viewing the boards.

Yes and no. People who are part of our community have posted, and anyone who has posted shows up on our members list. Of course anyone who was banned is removed from the list, even if they were members at one time.

Now wait a second. I've been banned. Give credit where credit is due. I earned that ban darnit!
I think perhaps (and have always thought) that "banned" should be reserved for those that are permanently banned. A week, or 30 days really should be like back in school and called "suspended" and permenant ban should be called "expelled" .
OK, so I didn't actually get banned even though my status said that for a week. I was just taking a vacation. That's all.:p
Love you guys. I really did deserve it. No question about it. But to call me "banned" ??? I dunno if that's appropriate.
