Hello fellow snake lovers. My name is Ryan and (of course) I am new to this site. I have been interested in snakes for about seven years now, most of my experience is with boids (Boa constrictor imperator/constrictor, python regius, and Python molarus bivittatus), but would like to get into colubrids because they dont get as big, have fairly good temeraments, and just so darn cute.
I am from a small town in the central valley California and am a masters student in biology, doing research in genetics and silk protein analysis of Latrodectus hesperus (black widow spiders). one more year of this and 5-7 more for Ph.D and I will finally be done with school, YAY!! I like all the typical things; reptiles, hiking/backpacking, anything biology, a good cigar, and just having a beer at a BBQ with some friends. Have any questions or comments shoot me a line, Ill be around.

Ryan..

Hi Ryan,

Welcome to the forum. Your research sounds fascinating, and it'll be great to have another member with advanced knowledge of genetics. Mine is a bit rusty, but Kitkat usually keeps me fairly straight. She might suggest that it takes more than one person to keep an eye on my genetic trivia, though ;). I look forward to hearing from you often and wish you the best in your search for an interesting garter to keep. You shouldn't have to look too far, given your location. Will you try to find a wild one or purchase one from a breeder? Too bad California doesn't let other Californians buy their awesome herpetofauna at reptile shows. Kind regards,

Rick

P.S. Don't forget about the years post-doc research :D
