When Gabby found this young red radix on the back deck I thought she might be gravid.
She has been very shy and doing much wandering until this morning.
Hoping she just restless before delivery.

It will be interesting to see what she delivers and how they color up.

I also found a beautiful young red radix while doing some yard work.
Still need to post a photo of that one.
Nice to see a different color phase in the area.

After many fruitless snake hunts in my yard, I've come to the conclusion that maybe they just like Steve better than most people and choose to hang out at his house.

The ones he's released spread the word.. "dude this guy has an infinite supply of pinkies!"

I think the real reason I have so many snakes around my house is the fact my neighbors have stopped killing them and are giving them a chance to go forth and multiply.:D

She is beautiful! Maybe it's word if mouth among the snakes that Steve's place is safe!

They are here. She's in the process of finishing up.
I have one I'm very disturbed with. Very healthy active baby but it's lower 1/3 is fused in a knot.
I'm not sure if the cloaca is clear or even functioning.
In the past, deformed babies have been small and weak. This has made euthanasia much easier.
This baby is active and looking at me just like its healthy siblings.
This isn't an easy situation.

That's great!! I can't wait for pics!

That's not great... that sucks. The knot thing is weird, I hope he's OK.

A knot? I didnt think that was possible with out breaking bones, maybe it just looks like that and it will eventually untangle? Is that possible?

guidofatherof5
08-09-2011, 10:09 AM
No, it's one of those skin fused together things.
I need to go inspect all these babies so I'll see what's going on and report later.

Venti

That is sad, but that is life I guess.
Best wishes from me for the rest of the babies.

11 healthy little dark phase radixes at this point. All have shed and are resting.
The little mom is doing well. I think this was her first litter judging by her size.

Little Pretzel, as I call her isn't going to make it. I was able to free her up some by cutting a small piece of skin but it won't be enough to make any real difference.
She has a prolapsed cloaca and an exposed GI tract.
She's is resting between a couple paper towels and in a small container. that container is in a 37 degree fridge. She'll stay in there for at least an hour, I'll then move her to the freezer to finish the job.
It's these situations that are the hardest for me. This one in particular since this baby was so alive and fighting.
With that being said I also know my responsibility to not let her suffer.
Still part of me wants to give them every chance at a life.
Little Pretzel would have never been able to make it with all those medical issues and had no chance.
Sorry little one, your Birthday wasn't a very nice day at all. R.I.P.

That looks worse then I invisioned it, I completly respect your decision to put her down, I guess it's part of being a responsible breeder, I pray that the day will never come when I might have to put some of my hatchlings to sleep. :(

She had that last baby I thought she was holding.
The final count is:
12 healthy, one deformed for a total of 13.

Pretzel just went into the freezer. I made the mistake of looking at her before.
I feel like crud now.:(
