"And the Trogdor comes in the NIIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHT!!!" (we hope he doesn't, anyway).
My two-part enclosure, including a shot of thatch-roof cottage, the connecting tunnel, and a basking Little Dude.

Little Dude poking her head out of one of the cottages (I removed the thatch roof to avoid attracting Burninators). "Up Periscope!"

Yes.
I don't know how, as all of my life I have been unable to work with wood. Measuring, cutting, keeping things square. I can cut a board 3 times and it will still be too short.:D
One day I had an idea in my head and just went with it.
They have been a blessing.

6'x2'x2'
Most have the option of being converted into 2 separate enclosures 3'x2'x2'.
You just have to slide in a divider.

Didymus, I've never seen a half-n-half sort of enclosure like that for a garter! Very creative. How do you clean the water side? Do you use filters, or can you detach that half and just dump it?

I use a kerosene siphon pump, a length of plastic tubing, and a 5 gallon bucket. I pump the water into the bucket until I get enough for a good siphon, then use the pump intake like a vacuum cleaner to pick up any dirt, poop, or other mess I might happen to find. I clean the water at least once a week, more if I find any messes. And about once a month, I give the whole thing a good scrubbing.

I clean once every 3 months and I tear it all apart and do something different with it, only gets better every time and keeps the snakes exploring

Here's a picture of my set up. Pretty simple, Sage in the big 30gal, babies in the 10gal next to it. Babies hides consist of a keg cup with a hole cut in it, and a toilet paper tube cut down the middle. Sage has 2 store bought hides.

Nothing fancy, not that it needs to be. Babies in this tank. 3 snows and 3 albinos. Aspen substrate, a couple of fake plants, plastic lid for water, and for the hide... (drumroll please)
Part of an egg carton top.

Big Bertha's favorite hide is a small cardboard box flipped upside down with a notch cut in it for access.

Where do you get your plants Richard?
ConcinusMan

Mostly from dollar tree. They also have bags of dried loose green and spanish moss, and moss sheets. But I can get better moss by harvesting it around here.

Really? Dollar tree? It's not pet supplies, why would they have it? I gotta go look there! I hate petsmarts little leaves for $10!!

Walmart has good fake plants too for pretty cheap. Ours has an entire aisle devoted to nothing but fake plants. I find a lot of really cool looking decorative bits there.

Well, ours doesn't. Is it in the pets part?

Hobby Lobby puts their fake plants on sale at 50% off from time to time.

They're sold for use in making your own artificial flower/plant arrangements. Dollar tree, craft stores, walmart, etc. I would never buy that overpriced crap from a pet store. You want to make a nice piece for your tanks, get a hunk of wood, drill holes and stick in $1 plants.
RedSidedSPR
08-05-2011, 02:43 PM
Yeah... Gotta try that. I've looked at our Walmart and can't find any..
