I'm not going to poke him, just rub him around a little. He seemed pretty ok with me doing that. I held onto him with a pair of wide tweezers. I just rolled him over the worm chunks and then put him in his cup with a spinach leaf. He seems pretty happy in his new home.

They also love cabbage.

They love strawberries a whole lot too. I have a little strawberry patch and they bombard it every day when the strawberries are in season.

I'll have to try those. I really don't know much about slug care. Do I just toss in a leaf now and then and clean his cup?

They seem to put out a lot of waste.
I think a clean container very often would be best.;)

I just kept them on a ton of fresh greens and whenever they finished, put more in... And if they didn't I changed the greens and cleaned the little cup out. Make sure not to keep them really moist, that kills them, as does a lot of heat. Too dry and they'll dry out. It's surprisingly hard (at least in my case) to keep them alive. Haha.

Well, I'll try my best to keep him going. I'm sure my adult NWs would be very upset if I had to feed Herb to them.... ;)

Well he'd likely slime their mouths if you did feed him to them! If you do, though, have q-tips and tweezers ready to pull the slime out.

That's true. They are good eaters on what we have I think I'll stick to that. :)

Here is the slug that helped the baby eat. It's name is Herb (because it adds so much flavor!!).
Hahahaha! oh, that made my day. So funny.:D
Ok. He's lighter brown than the picture is showing though. I tried a banana slug a few days ago, but that one was like super glue!
Yeah, stay away from those. Bad news.
The slugs that have stripes and spots are a lot better, they might be a bit more slimy in some ways but if you poke Herb enough he might put out yellow slime, which is the choking stuff.
I'm pretty sure the slugs Chantel is talking about are not native to NA, but common still. Tiger slugs get huge and are quite common around my yard. Their slime is somewhat clear and not so "super glue" like. All my snakes that eat slugs, love tiger slugs which are native to Europe:

Which ones, the dark brown or the banana?

I think he meant the banana slugs. I think I read that they eat mushrooms, and if they eat one that's toxic, they can secrete it with their slime.

Which ones, the dark brown or the banana?
Both if you're talking about the very dark brown huge ones with orange bellies and slime. They're both native. Both eat things that aren't good for your garters, (toxic mushrooms & other fungi, toxic plants, feces, etc.) and they both have choking "super glue" slime.

Ok. Thanks. Herb has a white belly. He is more of a light milk chocolate color. It was very difficult to get his color in the photo.

I got a picture of Runt, Thumbelina, pumpkin and Azul. It shows how diverse their sizes are!

The non eater that ate friday, ate again today. All on its own. I just put the plate in and it went right to it. It had about 4 chunks. One of the other 2 looked sort of interested but still didn't eat. I'm prepping my fridge temp to brumate if I have to.

Thanks! I'm having trouble getting my fridge the right temp. It's at 41 right now. I turned the temp up a notch so hopefully I can get it around 45.

Ya know, you pick them up, gently, not restricting movement, hold the baby around middle or slightly higher, and offer with tongs, touching the food to his face. It'll keep the from running away

None of the babies will eat while being held or even touched. I've tried many times.

Ok, I just feel like tong feeding in a harrassing way is a good way to get them to eat, but if it doesn't work...

Yeah, out worked for Blade when we first got her and found what would get her to eat, but the babies are just stubborn.

The babies are so cute! ...and I like Herb. Lol.
Besides, screw that. Ship them to the nearest US location and you pick them up and take them home your damn self!
Can you actually do this? I can use a vacay

So now we only have one hold out. The second non-eater took some slug strips today. It hit it hard too! I offered from the tongs. I guess the other one told it how good it was and it just had to try. Whatever works!!

thats awesome. When my babies werent eating I left them in the feeding tank which is a 10gal and put the lid on and there was worm piecs and a small thing of water. And a small hide. I left them in there with the worm piecs for about an hour at a time. Checkinhg on them every so often. After about an hour I took them out and put them in there regular encloser. After about a few days they started eating. Just a suggestion. Have you tried leaving them alone with the food in with them. It might take a few times but thats what work for my babies. I also tried doing it a couple times a day with them.
