Do Plains Garters have black undersides? I found one (95% sure it was one) but it had a completely black underside and I can't find any pics of them with a black underside. It had to be a Plains Garter though because the top looked exactly like every Plains Garter pic.

Sorry, but no pics of it. I was moving a pile of wood and found it so I just moved the Garter to a different area and continued moving the wood.

No they don't as a rule.. Sounds cool. But not not natural... (or averagely natural)

Ask Steve!:)

I've never seen one with a black belly.
Might have been a T.s.parietalis (Red Sided Garter).
They are known to have black bellies. Saw many in Canada.
You are in T.s.p range.

that was my first thought too Steve, sounds red-sided, sometimes if they aren't engorged with food you can barely see the red, or if they are dirty on the sides, all you see is the dorsal stripe and they can look "plainsey"

I've sometimes think my redsided looks a little plainsy.. If it wasn't for the little red he has, he'd look lot like one.
