I'm so happy right now and the ideas are just flowing through my head, picked up a 70 gallon for cheap! it was only 100 bucks.
Just needs a serious wash and a bit of touching up and its like new!
I'm so excited!

Excellent find! Can't wait to see how you arrange it. So whose home will it become?

It could house a lot!!:D

It will house the 2 in my avatar picture (frosty and Serpent), they need a little bit more space than they do right now, they are in a 25 gallon right now 24 x 12 x 16

How many garters do you have? You could probably house them all in there :D

I got 3 wild caught males and 2 CB females. Not too sure if I want to house them together

Oh, yeah. Didn't think of that. Are they the same species?

Yeah, I wouldn't house em together cause of the inbreeding risk. Nvm

Awesome. a 70 gallon is perfect dimensions for a large garter snake setup!
(roughly 48 X 19 X 21)
Just like my 55 long, (roughly 48 X 12 X 21) but a little wider. Nice!
Need some inspiration?

I'm going to start using this thread as a progression thread, I'm working on it right now just trying to get some pictures off my phone
so far I cut the PVC pipe in half, epoxy them together and I'm going to silicone it so there will be no leaks.
man I spend a lot on my snakes, but they are worth it :)

There are some creative ways to spend much less, all while still spoiling them.;)

I think I might've missed something, but what's the PVC pipe for? I really enjoy looking at new tank-decorating ideas.

Here is a little update
this is what I'm using the PVC for, so far I only epoxy the pieces together, still need to figure out what kind of pools are going to be at either end

As for the tank its looking sharp on the stand I made

Until I get the stream finished I just put some things in there to keep the snakes exploring.. but look at the far left back corner

The tube that serpent is sitting in is a nice stiff tube I cut a 45 degree cut right in the middle hot glued it back together so it forms a 90 degree angle, coated some glue all around the outside and buried it in sand. The opening I just made a half circle out of some plastic so substrate doesn't get inside. They call it home

You could!
Let your imagination soar!
start off with the requirments, water dish, a few scattered hides and just add from there.
driftwood I got from a creek that usually gets flood action in the spring, so its nice, barkless and smooth, put in the oven and bake for a while to kill everything inside
bamboo plants you can find pretty cheap at walmart and they grow good!
if you have a pet store there with a used section there is a lot of good stuff that you can pick up for less than half the price of petsmart

Exactly the idea is to just add. I think plants make a huge difference.

Pet store with used stuff? Never heard of such a thing. Anyway, there's a dollar tree right next to petco by my house. Just go to a dollar store. All kinds of fake plants you can use and they're only a buck. They also have various kinds of loose dried moss and moss sheets. All this stuff is for floral decorations but there's some very realistic looking stuff there. Just get a chunk of wood, drill some holes and stick $1 plants in them. Works great.
