These are pics from last year, I'm going to attempt to get some new ones sometime in the near future but figured I'd post these for those who haven't seen them.

This is a typical adult shorthead garter snake, probably about 15".

Here's a little neonate shorthead that was maybe a month or two old. These pics were taken at the end of August, I'm curious as to if females started dropping babies yet.

Little guy was kinda plump because he just ate. The only prey item they'll take, worm. Most of the shortheads I find have just eaten, especially after a rainy day... Earthworms come out and the shortheads follow.

I'd never even heard of those until recently. They're very neat looking.

Awwww! They look kind of like Pumpkin without the orange. :D It makes me want some, they are too cute.

They're in New York I believe. But, they're a protected species.

Yup, you can take photos of them, but that's about it. No collecting allowed I believe.

These ones are from the Pittsburgh, PA locale which I assume is A LOT larger than the NY population.... There have been plenty of days where you could lift up a board and find a dozen shortheads piled together.
Thanks for the comments, really just motivates me to get out and do some snake hunting. I actually quit looking for snakes around here just because all you can find are the shortheads.

Well, they are cute. I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of them. Go do it! Now! :D:p
