i noticed on my baby garter tail he has some cuts and also one on his mouth. so i took him out and placed him in a plastic box with a heating pad just to let him heal. should i put anything on the cuts? if so what? and is my cage to rouged for a baby garter snake?

The cage is fine. It'd be crawling over rougher stuff out in the wild. Just make sure the heating pad doesn't get the 'hospital tank' too warm, and if possible put it only on/under part of the tank so it can get away to cool off if it needs to. Garters can do just fine in pretty cool temps, but it can be bad to get them too hot.

The tail part is not a cut, that is his belly button. Honestly, you're probably stressing him out and he should be left in his normal tank. Take out anything that may be sharp, and he will be perfectly fine. It also looks as if he has bark in his mouth, you can use a q-tip with a little bit of diluted peroxide. I would use one part peroxide to 2 parts water.

Chantel is right. I actually don't see any cuts. I see marks normally present on young snakes.

Photo #3 shows what appears to be a cut that is perpendicular to the scales. That's the belly button Chantel talked about(good call, Chantel) A short distance down is the cloaca. About a half an inch down from there is a small dark colored abrasion. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Putting a little neosporin on it shouldn't hurt anything.

lol!!! The slit on his belly, is his "belly button" and the one under his chin is a skin fold that is extra stretchy. When they eat large things it stretches out. There is nothing wrong with him :)

Is it just me or does it look as though it has a cut beneath its belly button?

No, that's either the belly scales, bellybutton or the cloaca.
