garter mouth issues

hi so i just bout a baby garter a week ago and since then iv been trying to get him to eat and he hasn't. and just today iv noticed he keeps opening his mouth as to yawn (even tho they dont) and closing it. i dnt no if it could be something wtrong with his mouth or hes just hungry now?? someone plz help

They DO yawn. It's perfectly normal ;)

If your snake is active and doing a lot of tongue flicking that usually means things are pretty good.

That's normal, yawning is nothing to be worried about.

Unless it's not yawning but instead is gaping with labored breathing.

It helps if you have camera ready as they are swallowing a large meal. They'll often "yawn" after swallowing, to realign their jaws.

That was Lily, the first time I ever saw a garter yawn. It always looks to me like she's roaring. :D
It was really a lucky shot. I was taking a whole bunch of her, because she was new, and that's one I caught.

With the new guys it's more like gnashing. 'Pinky, please!'

yeah, my flame is MUCH calmer. You can actually pick him up. But it's funny. He lets you know when wants down. He is calm. Sitting in your hand... well that was fun, i want down now. CHOMP!!

Just like Squirt... She hated being picked up and would act all tough, but she was about 8 inches. She'd puff herself up so big. It was cute.
