View Full Version : Is she maybe gravid?

the pictures don't do her justice but she's twice as fat as my 3 other garters of roughly the same length, she's very mellow, doesn't move, doesn't eat, just stays in a corner all day in a ball and never wants to bask to get some sun, she drinks and is active if I pick her up. If I closely look at her it seems like she's stretched out a bit as if she would of eaten but she hasn't in the 10 days I've had her.
PS. she really doesn't look gravid at all until I compare her to the others, oh well just thought I'd post it to see what you guys think.

She's looking very lean. I don't think she's gravid.
If she is I don't think it's a good thing for her or the babies at this time.
She may not be cut out for captive life. I had that happen a couple times with some radixes.
She may need to be released back where she came from.
Just my opinion.

Yeah of my 4 only 2 are eating and the one I just posted just shed might have to bring 2 of them back :( I get mice / fish tomorrow so hopefully their appetite comes back, because obviously they use to eat something before :)

She is VERY thin... not sure that's an unhealthy kind of thin, or just thin

If anything, she looks half starved. Definitely not gravid.

Weird she's actually the bigger of the 4 I have, ah well another week and if she doesn't eat I'll just put her back where I found her. My other 3 are smaller but eat pinkies / worms / tilapia, just weird that my biggest garter is the only one refusing to eat anything

but is she the thickest?

Yes she is, which is why I thought maybe she was gravid because she is noticeably thicker than my other 3. I tried looking online at pictures of gravid garters and some of the pictures I saw of the supposed gravid garters don't really show, I just wanted to make sure she wasn't because if she was I would of put her in her own terrarium.

Gotcha. Understandable.
don't take this the wrong way.. but you may want to start feeding your snakes more. That's pretty thin.

ive had them for about 2 weeks now and they eat worms every other day whatever they can take in that sitting, then I offer them again about 48-72 hours later. and pinky parts / tilapia is something they just start eating a few days ago.

ok.. i guess that's enough. Just make sure they have i nice fat bulge in their middle when they're done. Otherwise, they prob need more

I was gonna say that... but than she could still be beefier.
Not saying you're doing anything wrong, man. Just letting you know that's a little underweight ;)
