Kleo ate something between a hopper and a fuzzy. She looked like a balloon. :) But she digested it well, with no problems. Yay! I discovered, that Kleo will eat anything that smells like a molly fish, even from the tongs. Dunno why, but it seems that's her favourite food (molly fish).
Amon still doesn't eat. Wrrrr...

Classic ribbon. Loves fish.
What's up with Amon?!? I'm sure he's ok though.
Not quite. Kleo won't even try out anything that is scented with other fish, unless she's crazy hungry. But you can scent even a shoe with molly and she would probably eat it. :)
About Amon... He's active and doesn't look like he's losing weight (well, he may be a little slimmer), but still... He didn't eat for 43 days.

Like my adult. won't eat any fish except minnows but if you scent anything with minnows he'll nail it.
Weird about Amon...
BUT he managed to escape twice (I have found him quite quick though). Did the same trick as Izy. They are neighbors, so he probably copied her move. ;)

I always wonder where my snakes would go if they escaped... if they got to the top of the cage, the only place really (without dropping off) is the cords leading up to the stereo, (warm at that) and 3 shelves... so thats a possiblity.
First time I found Amon under the bed in other room (when Izy escaped, I've found her in the same room), second time he was in the radiator that is sticked to the wall under Amon's cage (Izy was there too ;) ).

If they make it to the floor, they almost always travel along a wall and head straight under the nearest couch or other hiding place. They can get surprisingly far in a house without being spotted.

Yeah.. I just wonder I'd they would make it to the floor at all. the cages are up on a desk, and I've sat with the lid off and watched the concinnus climb out, up the cords and just curl up on the warm stereo...
There's a lot of hidin places on the floor though...

A small garter snake could easily drop 50 feet and not be injured. Remember the rule on how mass and velocity are related. They don't hit the ground with the same kind of force we do. It's not enough to hurt them in most cases. They would have to exceed their terminal velocity in order to be injured.

I didn't say they couldn't survive it, I know they can, I meant I wasn't sure if they would reach the floor deliberately, since they don't fall on purpose.

This is exactly what my snakes did. That's why they ended in the other room.

I had a 4ft pueblan milk that escaped once. She wasn't gone more than 5 minutes and there were plenty of people in the house, moving about. Then I heard picture frames falling off a wall in a room on the opposite end of the house. I found her climbing up them. She had to go down a hallway, across a living room full of people, through a kitchen, and then into that room in the span of 5 minutes. Nobody saw her do this. I can't explain it. I also can't explain how she got 6 feet up a sheer wall to those picture frames.

Ninja snake.
That's crazy.
Kleo's going to shed again. This will be her third shed with me. But no wonder, she was eating like crazy some solid stuff (hoppers) and now it's time to grow, hie, hie, hie. :>
Oh, and my snakemania continues. Now I'm dying to buy Elaphe dione and Lampropeltis triangulum gentilis. But that's it! Unless I see some garter around...

Kleo must be doing some good growing, nice job.
Sounds like my Shyblue. She's going into another shed also.
Kleo shed yesterday (one day earlier than I have expected) - of course I had to help her in the bath (this time it was my fault - too low humidity and too high temperature, because there was a sunny day and I forgot to turn off the heat cable). Today she ate a fuzzy, yay!
Anyway, I discovered that she likes to change her menu. Last time she was eating anything scented with molly fish on sight. Now she was picky and didn't catch scented with molly fish fuzzy, but she grabbed a fuzzy scented with swordtail. Probably in a few weeks she'll be loving guppies. :)

"it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind"
Glad to hear Kleo is eating and shedding, again.
She must be happy in her surroundings.
Yeah, I was worry that change of her place and yesterday's bath will stress her, but it seems she used to it (not that she was overall happy with my treatment!). Izy still doesn't have proper apetite though, but she's way more active than Kleo. Hope her piggy attitude will come back soon. ;)

My girls do that a lot too. I don't blame them, I'm the same way ;)
Hah, lol, I was looking at Amon, when I have noticed that Lucky the Mouse went out of his cage and started to eat dried smelt, that my girls didn't want to eat. Now I know what to do with them besides throwing them off. :)
So I left a swordtail in the water dish hoping that Izy will eat it. Kleo ate a big, fat smelt day before, so I have assumed that she'll not go for it. I totally forgot about it and remembered about after a few hours. The swordtail has dissappeared, but I guess Kleo ate it (simple observation of her belly, but as I said, she ate a smelt, so I'm not sure). She became The Eater, so I doubt Izy ate the swordtail...
I'm getting somewhere with Amon - he still doesn't eat, but he's starting to show some interest in his food. It's over 2 months while he's not eating.

I don't know what you to say about Amon. I'm guessing it's just the time of year but I know nothing about house snakes.
Is he losing wait? Is he acting any different?
Not really, no - he's slimer for sure though, but I don't think it's because he's ill or something - he didn't eat for 2 months afterall. He's still active. I've read on African House Snakes forum, that males tend to fast for 2 or 3 months. It supposed to be their mating mode, even when females aren't present.

That's probably what it is... if he's not losing to much weight or acting weird ita probably just what they do.
Hope he eats soon though.
It makes me little crazy though... Amon - mating mode, Izy - brumation mode... My God, the only snake that's eating normally is Kleo. I hadn't expected that giving my history with her... Will you believe, that she was suspiciously interested in Lucky the Mouse? Hint: he's an adult mouse. But probably it was movement that attracted her, not the Lucky himself. It would be funny if she would try to hunt him down and eat him though. :)

Yeah, especially that Lucky eats dry smelts (that my snakes refused to eat, when they wasn't dry yet, lol) like crazy. Carnivorous little beast!

Had no idea mice ate smelt.:D
Believe me, I didn't too. But one day Lucky fled his cage (well, he has reached only it's roof where a dry smelt was and he has started to eat it). That's how I figured out that he likes them.

Awesome.
Well, I don't have to throw away smelts that Izy or Kleo refused to eat anymore, right? :) Just another little bonus of having a feeder mouse in my house...
Well, nothing special, Kleo digged in yesterday another fuzzy... I bought today more fish to cover up the gap hole my babies did in my aquarium... Two mollies and a swordtail that is. Gee, people were staring at me strangely, when I've ordered three FAT fish. :D
So I opened my girls' tank and put my hand in there. Kleo instantly rushed forward to see what's up. When she smelled me, she has started to flick her tongue like crazy, she almost went on my hand! No fear at all! Lolwat! The idea popped in my mind: "she's hungry". I wasn't wrong - she ate instantly her first rat pinky (scented with a mollyfish). The point is, she ate 3 days ago a fuzzy. Well, I couldn't resist, especially that she was ready to send me a message with her teeth if I hadn't feed her!
Izy didn't want to eat of course, until she put her hands... I mean mouth on a live molly. It was like om nom nom nom.

Awesome! Sounds like my concinnus and anery.
I'm pretty sure she wouldn't bite me (she wasn't opening her mouth or something, just approching my hand without any fear and her tongue constantly flicking), but she clearly knows that if I put my hand in her cage there's a fat chance some food will follow. ;)

Yeah mine too. But sometimes the miss when I'm hand feeding. LOL
Kleo wouldn't bite me. She has to smell her food from all sides before she actually opens her mouth. ;) She's not a bolting lady.

Your Kleo is a LADY.
Kleo ate another rat pinky today, scented with a swordtail. I wonder if she ever manages to eat unscented rodents... Would be cool, 'cause I'm sick with all those fish... The problem is, Kleo only wants to eat rodents scented with live fish. Izy is far worse - she eats only live fish! I mean, why?! She used to be so fine eater... I think it's my fault - I spoiled her with all those goodies. You think I should make her fast until she eats smelts, worms and pinks?
Amon's ramadan is continuing. Nefri's sitting in small tank, because her tank didn't arrive on time (seller's fault - she told me, it will come tommorow, dang!). Do you think I should try to feed her or wait until her new home will be ready?

A very hungry Izzy might just eat something else when offered.
Have you tried scenting Kleo's food with fish fillet? Might be worth a try.
I've even tried to give her a fillet itself. No luck. Some tongue flicking and that's it.
Because nothing is happening (my girls are digesting their last meal) - I would like to inform you that Nefri just ate a frozen mouse (that Amon has refused, of course). :) It's her first meal in my house. :) Gotta keep things on track and don't do the same mistake I did with Amon (feeding in 4-6 days and now he's fasting), so she doesn't go his way.
Cheers. ;)

Sweet!
Sorry for this offtopic. And I've decided that I won't join Amon and Nefri. She's too big I'm afraid and I doubt Amon will grow up more. Also, she ate a mouse like it was nothing and very enthusiastically I must say. I'm not planning to overfeed her and because she looks like she would happily eat ANOTHER mouse - better to keep Amon off her sight (especially if he starts to eat again; Nefri wouldn't attack him on purpose I suppose, but if he smells like a mouse?). I would join Nefri with a house snake - but if it would be a female though; Amon's too fragile at this point.
Again, sorry for offtopic.

Ok, it's been a while (I was very, very busy)... Kleo's eating fine. Gotta measure her soon. ;) Izy isn't (besides live fish). Oh well. Nefri's going to shed. And Amon finally ate! One rat pinky (he refused a hopper I've offered few minutes later, but I think he's gonna click). Yay!

Nothing new in Kleo's case. Gotta handle her once or twice to piss her off a little. ;) Who am I kidding, she used to my hand (not that she's super crazy about it). Like I said, Amon started to eat. Today he digged in a bigger rat pink. I think he's ready to eat adult mice again. Will try to not overfeed him this time! Izy's wandering again around her cage, but still doesn't eat as she used to. Nefri's also fine, she shed few days ago perfectly and has eaten her second meal. ;)

Nice to here the update.
Sounds like your crew is doing well. Hoping Izy will start eating better soon.
Me too, 'cause she didn't eat any pinky (or smelt) for months and I'm getting low on guppies. ;) She's ignoring worms too, but that concens me much less. I think she really needs to eat something solid.
So it's official - it's Kleo's turn to fast. :P She would probably eat live guppie though, but she was eating very well few weeks ago, so I'm guessing little fast won't make her any harm.
Amon ate a rat pinky after a month. Gee, I wonder when (or if!) he'll be again some kind of eating machine he used to be. I think he was such a good eater, because he was with a female just before I have recieved him and so he was super hungry after mating with her. Blah, nevermind - the good thing is, he's eating again whatsoever.
Something's wrong with Kleo. ;( She isn't alert and I spotted that her tongue is broken or something. It's like she has only half of it. ;(;(;( Dunno what's happening, but the more I'm thinking of it, the more I'm concerned... I don't know how she could break her tongue like that, I doubt Izy done it to her. Is it possible that my Kleo is just old and her days are counted? ;( I feel terrible...

God, I hope so... But it's hard to say.
But it looks like one - and it's very thin (not flat). And Kleo keeps it's tip out of her mouth... I have no idea how it could stuck together and keep that way... Gee, should I open her mouth and inspect what's going on?

Can you take a pic and show us what is going on? I'm so sorry Bart...that something is wrong....do you have any idea how old she is?
It seems you're right, Steve. Underwater it looks normal, so she's doing it with her tongue... ;( I decided to put her in her old tank and move to the other room. I'm afraid she's passing away. ;( She was big, when I got her, so she wasn't a young snake for sure, she was WC, had a lot of battle scars... Ah, crap. ;( She's with me for 7 months now.
I can do a picture, but it won't do any good. She's looking normal, but she isn't very alert, she only seeks hide and she's weak I think. Ah, crap...
