Have had a couple small litters the past few days. First one was born early Friday AM hours, it was a double het Nebraska albino x high red plains bred to the same and she had produced 1 albino and 7 potential high red plains. This AM my Ian Campbell super high red plains was bred to an axanthic and she had a litter of about 9 babies. Interesting thing w/ this cross is that both traits are co-dominant and there were no axanthics.

Congrats Scott. While 9 is a small n, this is maybe some more evidence that the axanthic gene is not actually co-dominant, but rather co-allelic to the anery gene or some other relation of additive effect that requires one copy of anery gene and one copy of the axanthic gene to express the phenotype. I know this is all very confusing to most, especially not given the history.
Just food for thought Scott

I be confused, that's for sure.:D
Now I have a new word to look up. Co-allelic, thanks Jeff:D

I am waiting on my Ian Campbell red plains to pop...soon! she had 12 huge babies last year. I held back a male and a female, the female is now turning red! they were huge for plains babies.

Congrats Scott. That's odd with the axathic look not showing up at all

oh really?!?!? :D
cool news Scott! that's a smaller clutch so maybe you just didn't luck out, but Jeff could be right about the axanthic gene relying on interaction with the anery's to be able to express itself. There are quite a few morphs that will react only with one another in other species of snakes!

the "axanthic" acts co dominant only to the "anery"...i think this is finally confirmed, ive been told ive been wrong
