Went out today in search of some garters. No such luck this time:(, but I did find a few amphibians :).

I have no idea what kind of frogs/toads these are, but here are some pictures for your enjoyment. Maybe I'll have better snake luck next time.;)

With food like that around, the garters can't be far off.
A venerable smorgasbord:D

Bring me some of those! There would be a serious feeding frenzy going on if any of them could have some of that. ;)

You can have as many as you want if you head on over to central iowa. It seemed like there were hundreds of them out where we were. I'm going out again later when it cools down a bit to try my luck again. :)

that is exactly what I find at the creek near my house! Cricket frogs, leopards, carpenters, and bull frog tadpoles (but no bull frogs).

The annoying thing is, THERE ARE NO GARTERS.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. I don't see any amphibians, I see snake food! The tadpoles sure look like snake foo.. I mean bullfrog larvae to me. See the little black ones? Believe it or not, it only takes about 45 days for them to get the size of those big ones.

I agree with Richard, those definitely look like bullfrog tadpoles. As for the little black ones...those are bullfrog tadpole food!

The green slime and other organic debris at the bottom is much easier to catch.;) I'm pretty sure those are bullfrog tadpoles too. That's what they look like when they first hatch.

Well, went back for round two. Little later in the day, cooled of a bit....Snakes 2 : Plissken 0. Found some more toads and frogs though. Guess I'll just have to keep at it.

Yayy, I'm a serious frog lover :) I'm raising some bull tads for the summer.. Those little black ones probably won't last long if they keep hanging out with the giant green ones. Bullfrog food= Smaller bullfrogs. lol

there were what looked like thousands of the little black ones, and maybe fifteen or so big ones.

As long as there is plenty of detritus available, the big tadpoles won't bother the little tadpoles.

Here's a tip for you. If you keep them in shallow water that is relatively warm and not oxygenated, they will transform while they are still small. If you keep them in a filled aquarium with plenty of oxygen in the water, they will get huge and may take 2-3 years, and transform into much bigger froglets.

I'm going for the second option so I can legally keep them in my dorm for awhile :) and then probably release them where I caught them once they transform and it's the right time of year.

They do quite well in a basic unheated goldfish setup. After a year, mine sprouted back legs. After two years, front legs came. He stayed aquatic with 4 legs and transformed the third year.
