View Full Version : Good Hygiene

With the large amount of snake enclosures on the Ranch I have to change many water dishes often. A pattern has taken shape with my young garters.
The younger snake will enter the food dish(cut-up worms) and by the end of the meal most are covered with worm fluids.
Like clock work within a few hours their water dish will be filthy and all the snakes will be squeaky clean.
The reason for my thread is to gives kudos to these snakes for their good hygiene practices.
Many, if not most non-snake people believe garter snakes to be filthy. This is of course one of those misnomers about garter snakes.
They are not dirty but rather clean and well maintained snakes.
Just another good reason to keep them.

OK Steve, but why are they compelled to smear feces all over each other? or do I just have some really bizarre snakes?
I wish my snows would stay white.

No idea what you are talking about Wayne.:D
Mine only smear it on the sides of the enclosure or poop on the front screen doors.
Oh, wait, I know.
Ranch rule # 7 of the Ranch oath.

my new babies like to huddle up together at night, in the morning most of them are covered in poop... kind of a funny sight.

So if I ship them off for obedience training, it's a one way ride??
Not much of a bargain Steve.

You're right Wayne. I was being selfish. But.
I'll send pictures and let them write home.
You can come visit at Christmas time and watch their program.
Many parents do that.:D

Don't believe him Wayne. Don't fall for it. I think I've only seen one picture of the baby concinnus' I sent last year. Radixes seem to dominate the spotlight. I already know you have more than just radixes Steve, and as I said, haven't seen much of the concinnus' either. I would love to see more of your other snakes more often Steve, and I really, really enjoy seeing how my babies have grown up when other members post pics and vids, and write about them. Doesn't happen near as much as I would like to see, and it's not just you.
I try to make an effort to at least keep uploading pics every so often showing the progress of snakes I have gotten from other members. They don't always say so, but I know they must like to see that. I know I do. Of course, they are yours and you can do what you want. Just saying it would be nice for them to be featured once in a while.;)

Lots of irons in the fire here.
I understand what you are saying though.
I will see if I can rectify the situation.;)

Thank you. How about feeding video of your other garters and/or the baby concinnus' ? Would love to see your hypo bull again too.
