Hi everyone! Just registered today, thought I'd introduce myself and my garter. I'm Tom from Eastern PA, a student at Penn State, and currently living in NJ for a co-op. I currently only have one snake, an Eastern Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis). He's an awesome little bugger, extremely easy handling, and one of the most docile snakes I've ever dealt with. He's around 12" and doesn't have any crazy markings or colors, but I don't judge a snake by it's cover.

Here's some pics of the little guy:

Hi, from Oregon, Tom :)

Does your buddy have a name?

Thanks everyone! No, he doesn't have a name yet. I was thinking "Salisbury Snake" but that's just too much of a mouthful. Naming a new pet is always the most difficult part for me. I'm just really happy right now because I've had him since Sunday, but he finally had his first meal last night! It was just a few bits of earthworm cut into small sections, but it's just a relief to know that their won't be any feeding problems. Anyways, I'm glad I've found this forum and thank you all for the warm welcome.

I'm seeing a decent amount of Europeans on the boards, are Garter snakes a popular genus in the hobby over there?

In Britain at least[cant speak for the rest of Europe] we are the same as the states quite a few of us but far outnumbered by the boa/ rat/corn fraternity

That's what I thought. I honestly didn't even know that Garters were popular in the hobby until I got my little guy and stumbled on to this site. Almost every other snake website sticks to the corns/kings/boas/pythons.

Garters are the only snake... They have it all and that's why we're here.
