2011 had a bit of a gentle start for us this year... I found a small litter of 14 Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis this morning :)
I was expecting a bit more from this lady since she had 32 perfect young last year....
All seem healthy so I'm a happy man!
First mating attemps where on 23-01-2011 and she refused food since 12-04-2011. Gestation was 87 days counting from the first mating attemps...
They surprise me every year... Sooooooooooo tiny!

58 young times the 7 months it took me to sell one garter baby divided by the number of months in a year, equals... 34 years.
And that's why I'm not jumping into garter breeding with both feet.

58 is quite a bit of work ;) But I loooooove doing it!
@Stefan; Good thing its a bit easier to sell them around here. I believe all but the holdbacks found a home within 4 months....

I caught a huge eastern garter some years back that had 82 babies it was amazing she was around 37" and the babies were around 4" to 5" only one didn't make it because he was born deformed the rest were super healthy. I kept them for about 1 month and then i adopted them out as pets. I put 1 snake at a time in delicups and made sure each one ate and the ones that didn't went in a container so i could try again the next day you talking about a lot of work.

58, that's awesome.
Still trying to figure out where that number came from. I saw 14 parietalis' announced. Oh wait. I get it. Nevermind.
Yeah, I had 52 or so to deal with last year. That's quite a lot of work to care for!
