Let's make general comments about either the caption contest or the photo contest in this thread to cut down on the amount of chit-chat between contest entries. Have fun,
Rick

The mother of this one and 14 others was without doubt T. s. sirtalis. I purchased her as having been wild caught here in South Carolina just one week prior to the sale. We only have Easterns here. But, of the babies I kept, most are developing this same coloration.

What's considered a baby? Less than a year? Ten inches or less? Or newborns only?

Good question Matt. Maybe we should let Stefan-A decide, as he chose the competition topic for this month. What's your definition of "baby", Stefan?

What's considered a newborn? ;)

I'd say anything the poster can call a baby without having to try to convince himself. If you feel that a snake less than a year old can be called a baby, then that's fine with me.

Good answer Stefan! Very diplomatic!:D

I knew somebody would have to ask that question, so I had plenty of time to choose between either a rigid & arbitrary definition and a more subjective one.

For example, if 10 inches was the limit, then why exclude those that are just over it? They could still be the same age.

I have a few under one year old. But I won't be competing.;)

BABY GARTERS!!! Thanks a LOT Stefan…. Now I have to go out and start turning over rocks, and I’m too old for that! ;)

Terry,
I'm 59 and still turn rocks and dead logs over daily. Add to the age, I'm only 5'4" tall and weigh 115 lbs. Guess I'm a die hard herp addict:)

Sid, you're my hero. When I was younger you were what I wanted to grow up to be!

Sid: Same age, but I got you by 2 inches and 100 pounds. Stonyloam is the soil type of my farmland (emphasis on STONY) so I have had my fill of rocks (thank God for no-till faming). I guess I could turn over a few more if I have to.:D

I used to love it when my son was younger and I could use him as an excuse for turning rocks on the beach, up the mountain etc.... now he just looks on with that look of sympathy and embarrassment that only your own children can convey!!!:(
