The blue form of T.s.pickeringii was first introduced in the U.S. garter hobby around 2005. In the last year or two ive noticed them sort of fade away so when i had the opportunity to accuire a W.C. pair i was all over it...cheers Joe p

I have a feeling you're going to see them make a comeback this year and this probably won't be the only litter you see this season.;)

well Richard in order for this species to be firmly established in the hobby people are gonna have to be dedicated to captive breeding them...thats the only way

Yeah, I know. It seems some are having trouble producing litters or at least having trouble producing more than just a few offspring. Might help if a few more adults, in pairs, made it into the hands of breeders dedicated to improving the situation. A lot of the snakes that do become available are being sold singly or to people who are dedicated to breeding them. Wishing you luck with this litter.

Wow, thanks for the pics! Beautiful girl you have there! Good luck! I have a trio (currently keeping the female puget with 2 female red spots). I was under the impression Pugets were in less demand these days but I guess it's for other reasons? Anyway, looking forward to baby pics!

Thanks! Fortunately "Nice looking snakes" is something we all have in common here! ;-) Steve, been spying on this forum (very soothing before heading off to bed, hehe) and noticed you've acquired some new garters to your collection; which includes a duo of beautiful flames! ;-)

Nothing wrong with it at all garterchick, it's just that there's place for that and rules in place for very good reasons.

You should make a post here: For Sale/Trade/Adoption - Garter Snake Forum (http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/sale-trade-adoption/)

People cannot respond to the post in the normal fashion. If they are interested, then any dialogue between you and the buyer happens in private through PM's. This to avoid cluttering the forum with deals that should be kept private. You can and are encouraged to respond to your own "for sale" posting to let people know when the snakes are no longer available.

Good luck with your selling. You shouldn't have any problem finding buyers.

of course not
Tina's snakes are well cared for and beautiful
and I don't think there's anything wrong with mentioning an availability within a thread when appropriate

I currently have 3.1 Pugets, because I lost a pair over the last year. I had kept the male separate, from two of the females, until right before brumation. He locked up with both of them before going into the fridge. Then he locked up with all three after taking them out. I was disappointed last year when my big blue female only put out still borns. I'm hoping it works out better this time around....

I must ask. Over what time period did he lockup with all three.

bkhuff1s

In a matter of 5 days. The last two (smaller ones) he's locked up with before brumation, and I've heard they can hold it over the winter.

I noticed him attempting to lock up with one of the smaller ones last night as well (it's been over a week since they all came out).

He went nuts when I originally put him with the two females he'd been separate from. I'd been leery about putting him in with them, because he's wild caught and they're CBB. I haven't seen anything wrong with him, and since I lost their male I went ahead put them together to see what would happen.

It may just be longer than that. Red Sided garters can store sperm for years from a single mating. Probably not much different for Pugets.
That's one active male you've got there.:D A stout lad.

Yeah I brought him out two days before the females and the entire time he wouldn't sit still, cruising all over the aquarium (50 gallon). I had multiple friends ask what was wrong with him lol. As soon as I'd drop a female in there he'd stop and look at her, but as soon as she warmed up enough (to be touched I guess) he would pounce on her. Within 30 minutes each time he had locked up.

pickeringii and concinnus' don't do that. I already asked Dr. Robert Mason. He said he's never been able to find any evidence that they store sperm or get more than one litter from a mating like northwesterns and red sideds do. In fact, some skip years and do not mate or have litters but it takes another mating to get another litter and it's almost always just one mating with one male and one litter from it. This went for his captive snakes as well as wild ones.

That's not a conclusion you can draw from the lack of evidence. At best, you can say that it hasn't, to your knowledge, been observed.

True. I think that is actually what he said. It's never been observed.
