Hey guys I don't know if everybody knows it or not but Don has been breeding nebraska and iowa albino radixes with the "christmas" albino genes incorporated into them. This has resulted in some of the albinos turning orange over time. Well, Amy is proving to not be your average typical Iowa. He is coloring up rather than "coloring down" and turning white like most Iowas. He shed recently and now has even more orange on his sides. The new little nebraska I got from him is also showing signs of turning orange. But anyway, I thought I'd show some photos showing how Amy is coloring up.

Amy a while back looked like a typical Iowa and I thought he would "whiten" over time like most Iowas:

That's not what's happening. He's getting very colorful. More orange comes in with each shed. It's hard to catch in a pic but I think I managed OK here:

Feel free to ad your photos showing how your snakes changed over time. Flames, albinos, whatever. I figured by the time he was a year old he would stop coloring up and just be a typical Iowa. Well, he's still coloring up and looking more and more like a Christmas albino! Pretty!

Now feel free to ad your own photos of whatever snakes you have that colored up over time. Let's see how they progressed.:)

The little Nebraska has the same father as Amy and as small as she is, she's showing a lot more orange than Amy did at this age. I have high hopes for this little girl. I'll bet she'll color up real nice.

Thanks. I was looking at the WC male Iowa that Steve has , you know, the one that's been getting busy lately. He has the same orange markings on his side too. I'm really hoping that nebraska turns out like that other flaming orange one I saw somewhere. Actually, I think that was Don's and that's where I got this nebraska.

That blue towel does make a nice background doesn't it?

Very, very interesting. Now he looks just like a lot of the snakes I find in the area of Oregon where the anery's are found. Still, I find babies of that color too. Interesting how he started out normal looking. I still think he's just basically a faded normal. Here's one that I call hypoerythristic and he represents some snakes I find that look like this even as babies:

He mated with one of my normal females last week so it will be interesting to see if there's any anomalies in the offspring.

I would still like to see someone post progressive photos of their flames coloring up, or any dramatic color changes.;)

Wow! Now that's what I'm talking about. I do realize that you just can't predict how much they will color up but judging from this pic:

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g302/ssssnakeluvr/DSCF6001.jpg

And then, looking at this girl, it looks very promising!

Amy just shed again. Obviously, you just never know which snakes will "color up" in a litter. I mean, I've had Amy for quite some time now. He's around 2 years old now. Just when I think he's colored up all he's going to and no progress is being made, he starts coloring up again. I remember when I bought him from Don, he said that he carried the "Christmas Albino" genes but I wasn't holding my breath that he would actually be one and have it show. Well, It's becoming more apparent that he's no ordinary Iowa albino radix. If I have to loan him out to you Don, we must see what we can do about getting some albino offspring from him, hold them back for up to 2 years, and keep the ones that color up the most!

I just love that bright shade of orange and the way it contrasts with the "white" areas. Awesome.:D

Jeez Don, I really wish you could see Amy in person. He just shed again. Seems like just yesterday I got him from you and he looked like this:

I remember you told me he carried christmas genes and might someday produce them but I had no idea this would happen. I'm ecstatic.

Do you think it'll keep this coloration into adulthood? It's a beautiful snake.

Yes I do. In fact, the stripes on these babies, or more specifically, the red/orange pigment is still gradually increasing. For the most part, I can just about guarantee they won't change much more other than what I already mentioned. Only two of the six lack that red color.

Look at the difference in the orange between post #13 and this latest pic. That's a lot of coloring up between sheds. I wonder how far this coloring up will go!
