after recently failing to enter the caption contest [i had stupidly left it too late] i noticed how few [including my self] had taken the time to vote, the numbers were pathetically low. it left me feeling very guilty as i very much value the site, I like any other member have only to state a problem or ask advice and the response is immediate, so it should not be seen as too much effort on my part to take part [even if only by voting ] in the caption and photo competition and I fully intend to do so from now on.
i have been very Careful to criticise only my self, but im hoping other members will come to a similar conclusion and decide to give a little more support to the competitions ;)

It's a Thamnophis civic duty.:D
Realizing that we all get busy.
We could all probably do a little better in the contest area.;)

sorry - I've been quite absent on all counts
my brain is on overload, and I have to save my limited decision-making capacity for survival issues at the moment
hopefully this will pass soon

Maybe we need pretty, athletic, young girls to promote the polls!
I couldnīt meet any of those criteria  Iīm no girl nor (really) young
Iīve tried some ways to raise participation in the polls
like sending PMīs and changing my signature ;)
Nonvoters seem to be resistant
:p

I might be alone on this and it may seem silly & lazy but I've always found it cumbersome to have the polls and comments on separate threads without the pics. I know I'd have voted or commented on more of them if I could see the pics in the thread I'm voting on without having to go and find them. It's such a minor annoyance but enough of a pet peeve that I often don't bother.

Well, I've voted. On both. :D

we used to have thumbnails of the entries on the poll page, but I have no idea what kind of work was involved to create that

Want to bet? Not that I ever would vote on politics, but I lost my right in 1989. All it took was a class B felony conviction. If I wanted to push it, I could have requested that I get it back after 10 years (I would have to write a request to Governor of WA) but I don't care.

Voting is a right and responsibility.
It's a privilege to be able to participate in the process, even though many times you have to choose for the lesser of two evils.;)

It's also a my right to decide not to vote. Politics is a joke. I don't care to participate.

It's a privilege to be able to participate in the process,
Personally, I consider it a human right, as mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 21.

Nothing wrong with that.
My parents raised me using the word privilege.;)

I prefer to reserve that word for things that I don't consider inalienable. ;)

I agree with Stefan in this matter. A right is not the same a privilege. However, in America, the right to vote is not a human right. Not inalienable. There are a number of ways for you to lose the privilege whereas with inalienable human rights are something that cannot be taken away, no matter how vial a person you might happen to be.
