I'd like to introduce this little female. She a red phase T.radix. She was born last Summer to a rescue snake and was rather colorless at birth and for the longest while.
As you can see she's coloring up nicely. She's a year or more away from any breeding.
I hope she continues to red-up as she gets older.

I don't think I will be calling her Sasquatch.:D

Maybe Checkers.

She's in a radix tank. I don't have any Eastern garter snakes:(
Hoping to someday.

Well, there will be a zillion in my yard come spring...and I'm sure some will need a home as I will not be equipped to take care of all of them...babies will be getting in my basement.

Maybe we can work out a trade. I have a few:D radixes that like to travel.
Also, Delaware is on my radix conquest map.
Did I say conquest! I meant distribution.:D

I noticed in the photo she's a little dirty. I'll get her a bath and then get another photo. She's developing red on her face.
When she was born she looked like a normal, non-red radix. I'm sure glad I kept her.
She is a pretty girl.

That's very like Xerxes' change to hypo-erythrism. It's always nice to see them develop :D

That is weird the way he faded. I've only seen the opposite happen - snakes gaining color/intensity. Most normal concinnus' don't change at all and I've seen baby hypoerythristic one's where I find the adults and so I think those start out hypo right from the start. Never considered that they could start out looking normal. Very interesting.

It is well known that red radixes don't start out that way so that's no surprise.

Erythristic Easterns are known to take a while to colour up fully too ;). Similis tend towars melanism with age. I've noticed colour shifts in most of my snakes but, like you said, this is usually an increase in intensity.
I think my Xerxes must just be special :D

True, but most of the time you can see a hint of red. This snake looked redless from birth until about 3 months old. Then the red tint started.
I've never had one do that before.

Stop being such a naysayer:D

They do exsist and are living large at the T.radix Ranch.

I couldn't paint anything that pretty. ;)

Here's another one of my young radixes that's been cook'in.
This little female het. albino red phase was born to Rita(R.I.P.)
This little lady hasn't developed a lot of facial red yet but I have high hopes.
