I found this first bit of information and wondered if more famous/known people have kept garter snakes.

President Roosevelt's daughter, Alice, had a pet garter snake named Emily Spinach. The family had numerous pets while they lived in the White House

Very interesting story. I enjoyed reading it. Except the part about neglected snakes dying of course.

Well...here's one famous guy who rescues a bunch of Garter Snakes: YouTube - Pee Wee's Big Adventure: Pet Store Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKsaHk7d6bU)

Looks like red-sided garters. The fireman nearly stepped on one of them.

Yeah...one was close! (Always tough to watch that part) but looked like they all turned out OK. I've been a Pee Wee Herman fan ever since I first saw that movie :)

I don't know. Pee Wee is cool and all, but I liked the cocaine snorting crazy dude that Paul Reubens played in "Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams". That's the first time I saw him and I just couldn't shake that image of him even while watching Pee Wee. I kept expecting him to go around the corner, snort a line, and get back on his bike.:p
