I called petco on the phone yesterday and asked if they had garter snakes. the closet one that did was 50 miles from my house. Crap. They said it was a
"Canadian Garter snake". Dosn't exist right? He described it like..."One is a ugly green, and the other is a lighter green with even lighter markings."
Is there a kind of garter that's green? I cant go and see if it's a garter or not 'cause it's an hour away.

And yes, I know that petco is known for mislabeling and it's more like rescuing the animals rather than buying them. The employees know nothing.

I would guess a Plains Garter Snake (Thamnophis radix) which is native in Canada and often green.
Carrying money to a bad pet shop might rescue one snake but will make them to harm a dozen more snakes!

What Udo is saying, if you buy those snakes, the shop (petco) will order more.

I was joking when I said the whole rescue thing. Plains garter, thanks. I've looked them up and it sorta fit the description. So.. meh.

I bet it's not even a garter. Either some domestic species they weren't able to ID, or some obscure Asian species.

If it actually is a garter, my money is on T. sirtalis pallidulus, or T. s. sirtalis.

My guess was that it wasnt a garter. But he said they eat fish and worms every week...

A photo sure would help but having a description of both snakes, and supposedly from Canada, made my first thought T.s. pallidulus
