This thread is not just for the holiday celebrated in the U.S. but a thread about being thankful for all we have, world wide.
I'm thankful for my salvation, children and friends.
With regards to this forum I am thankful for all the members.
Many I consider dear friends.;)

Mine sure do like the turkey heart and liver. A once a year treat.
The only problem is deciding which enclosure gets it.

A Happy and Safe Thanksgiving is wished to all of my forum family members. Though the holiday of Thanksgiving is more of an american tradition, the human race has celebrated giving thanks for the harvest since time has been recorded. So for whatever it means to you, Have a wonderful day!

Waaaaayy late. You are correct. This is basically a celebration of harvest shared between the natives and the newly arrived Europeans in America. I'm sure the "first" one which occurred on the east coast, really happened much earlier, say, in Oct.
We just think it's more convenient to have the actual holiday close to Christmas I guess. Besides that, the growing season and harvest in some parts of the U.S. isn't over until sometime in November. By the time the last thursday in Nov. comes, the growing season is over for sure.;)

End of Oct is more appropriate really if you ask me. It's hunting season, and most crops are done, and harvested by then.

Beginning of October is the right time like our celebration.
No, with a closer view on it, weīll see that those are to different celebration, similar but still with different meanings.

Here, most crops seem to be harvested by early September and the hunting season starts on August 1 and ends on July 31.

Okay Stefan,
there is no important agriculture in the far North but hunting season all year. Maybe there is another date to celebrate life cycles, isnīt it?
Whatīs about Midsummer?

Oh, there is agriculture. It's just that the growing season is just 121-181 days, depending on where in the country you are. I think it's something like 250-280 days where you are.
Midsummer is already taken. Officially by John the Baptist.

Yeah, our only holiday that actually comes right at the end of the growing season is Halloween. Thanksgiving doesn't come until a month later, and really what it is, is a celebration of plenty - basically a celebration of the harvest but also to celebrate the surviving the winter, with the help and kindness of the natives, of the "first" Europeans to settle here - the crew and passengers of the Mayflower. So, our Thanksgiving has multiple significance. For many the settlers, it was their first time eating turkey and their first experience with popcorn.:D

Yeah, I almost added that midsummer was theirs until the 1300s.
It's essentially the same with all holidays, including the one people just celebrated in late October and the big one coming up in just under a month.

I have no problem finding clothes that fit well when I'm around 160 lbs. At that point, I've lost the "beer belly" and roll of fat hanging over my waistline. If I gain just 15 lbs and go up to 175, it's impossible! I have to buy pants that are too big, and wear a belt 'cause I have no butt. I hate that!
