My self-caught red-sided garter that I caught 2 1/2 months ago has not shed yet. I read that they should shed every month or two, but his aren't blue yet or anything. Is this normal? He seems healthy and is happy in his home.

He has stopped eating, but i'm assuming that's normal 'cause of the time of year. Starting my "mini brumation"(drape a towel over his tank and remove heat source for a month)this week

They shed when they grow. I've had snake only shed 2 or 3 times in a year. I've also had them shed every 3 weeks for a 6 month period.
As long as your snake doesn't have a retained shed I wouldn't worry about it.
Active, eating, sounds like a normal snake.

They shed when they need to shed, not on a specific schedule. My baby, Tiny just shed and he's 3 months old.

OK, I get that, but he has grown. like..two, three inches.

Then a shed is in your near future ;)

And? 2-3 inches doens't mean he'll shed right away. Like I said they will shed then they need to, when their bodies chose. Ember grew 5 inches before he shed for the first time in my care. Just be patient. ;)

And if he's stopped eating, it's not exactly going to spur a shed to come any sooner. Once he starts eating again, you can maybe expect it to happen.

Don't worry about it at all. If he starts looking like he's "wrinkled" (retained shed) then worry. There's no set rule to shedding frequency. When I first got Amy (iowa albino radix) he was shedding about every 6 weeks. Then it stepped up to every 4 weeks. He's slowed down since then and last shed about 8 weeks ago. But he was a fast growing baby. That's no longer the case.

Big Bertha, my 3.5 foot normal concinnus girl hasn't shed since June. It's pretty normal for a fully grown snake to only shed about twice a year.
