snakes found

Couple stories. First, I went to my usual snake catching spot and saw about 5 or 6 males garters basking. I hand caught some tadpoles and threw them at the snakes. After a minute or so one of the snakes ate it. I repeated that a few times, it was pretty cool to see.

Then my friend was telling me today that she saw about 20 baby garters coming out of a stone wall. So I went to this location, and it was later in the day so the sun wasnt strong so we only saw 3, but they are about 5 inches long and we kept 2.

What an exciting-looking place. I bet you could sit on those sunny rocks watching garters crawl around for hours :D.

Those are beauties. Feeding wild snakes is a blast (it is on my to do list, outside). I never knew garters were so special.

Hi Greyhawk. I only just stumbled across this thread...don't know how I missed it! Great photos, will you be going back there for more? Let us know how the babies get on.

I let the babies go they wernt eating. But, I dont know this for sure, but, my friend got a picture of a baby that I didnt see. And from the picture it looked like it had whitish checkers and a reddish face...I think it might grow up to be a flame. I'll have to investigate that further in the future. But I went to my usual spot yesterday and saw 20 snakes, a mix of garters, ribbons, waters and a racer. The first garter I saw was a 3 foot girl that had just eaten something, a frog I'd assume.
