These guys are sooo tiny!

Hello all. My name is Adam and I keep Boas, White Lip Pythons, and a Unicolor Cribo. I am excited to be working with these gorgeous garters.

They were fed frogs by the breeder and haven't been converted over to pinkies yet.

I am hoping they will cooperate and make the switch for me.

What a great looking pair you have there. Are these from Corey Roelke in Texas? ;);)

I got a trio from him and I'm really pleased with the colors. :p I'll try the pinkies in a month or so. I feel they are just to small for a pinkie (and I'm not one for mualting the dead) and sent later.

Welcome and I still like your scrubbs ... oh didn't i say that already.

Hey Brain,

Yes. These are the last two from Corey. It will be good for us to compare notes on how our young ones are moving along in their development.

IF your not switching to pinkies for a month, what are you going to feed in the mean time? Corey sent me his last two frogs, though I want to use them for scenting since I know they took frogs with Corey. The frogs are so little I am afraid of them getting away and disappearing under the furniture.

I figured I would get some guppies for them and start to convert them over in a few weeks when I can pick up some pinkies from a local reptile show.

I picked up some tilapia, but they are needing stimulation from something that moves I think to be triggered into feeding for now.

thank you all for the welcome!

Adam

It will be good for us to compare notes on how our young ones are moving along in their development. Yea lets keep up with the growth of these babie.

IF your not switching to pinkies for a month, what are you going to feed in the mean time? Well we do have salamanders here, and a small tree frog. However, both have gone into hibernation. We have been in the low 40’s out here the last two weeks. I have them on guppies just now. Like you said I belive they need that flopping action. Salmon is very fresh out here so is the tilapia and my T.s. fitchi don't even blink when thats in the bowl. So I hope to continue with the fish for all then slowly sent pinkies.:p

Corey sent me his last two frogs, though I want to use them for scenting since I know they took frogs with Corey. The frogs are so little I am afraid of them getting away and disappearing under the furniture. I can imagine dealing with the frogs Corey sent, GL.

I figured I would get some guppies for them and start to convert them over in a few weeks when I can pick up some pinkies from a local reptile show. Mouse Direct has good prices on pinkies .. I think .15 each. I had to use Big Cheese Rodents in Texas due to S/H. The pinks I got are just day olds so they are really small.

I picked up some tilapia, (I haven't tried it but I'll do just that and keep you advised. I leave the guppies to flop and come back lrt they are gone maybe i can use the salmon and/or tilapia) but they are needing stimulation from something that moves I think to be triggered into feeding for now.

Adam

I'll post more pics later. :D

Mine came from Joanna Duby, but they all eat chopped up trout just fine.

Trout, I just got one today and need to cut it up and try it.

My source of guppies just isn't making it and the fish tank I set up for mollies won't be producing for at least 6 months.

I have tried NC , salmon and guppies and the only thing so for is the guppies. I was talking with a good friend who knows nothing of snakes and suggested catfish. Anyone tried this with any success?

One of mine took a guppy this morning. YES!

Now if I can just get the other one on them I will be a happy camper.

I just weighed them.. one was 4 grams and the other 6 grams. I am used to my Boas which start around 50-100 grams.

I no longer know which is the female (perhaps the larger one?) but I will have plenty of time to figure that out as they grow.

I have set up a 20 gallon with 20 guppies. I am feeding off and replacing the males for now until the fry get large enough to feed off.. I figure in a 2-3 months I will have enough to supply the needs of my pair until they are ready to convert to pinkies.

That's great news, Adam.
I wish I had a guppy setup but they don't last long enough for me to breed them. I use about 50 a week.
Too many little mouths to feed.

Wow! 50 a week! Have you found a bulk source to be able to source that many?

If you lived in southern FL you could have several ponds in your backyard, I guess.

A local small pet shop stocks them.
As a rule they are always available.

Congratulations, those are very beautiful babies.

I think most of the ones that I shipped out this season are eating frozen chopped up fish or pinks. I feel really badly but the last pair I shipped out would only eat live fish. I know the pair that I bought last year took me a very long time to get on pinks but they finally did.

I think if you are peristent with them eventually they will switch. You just have to figure out what works. For the pair that I got last year it worked to put the pinky parts in the water with the live fish and eventually they took pinkies floating in the water! My last pair from this year would have none of that though. I am hoping the new owner won't have too much trouble converting them.

I can see "maybe" the radix coloring

Still good lookers.

Good luuck with the guppie tank Adam, I too set one up but also like Steve, I just can't keep it stocked :p

I have 3 Blacknecks, 1 Valley Garter and 1 radix all eating guppies. And the "only" pet store on the island gets $0.20 each no matter the size. So $5.00 in guppies every three days ... man this is killing me.

But then I just spent $1,400.00 on vet bills for our cat. These are like kids to me aso I'll pay the oprice untill my tank gets up and running.:D

These guys make me laugh!

So one has been converted to guppies and the other is holding out. SO I had the other in a plastic deli cup with a little water and a flopping guppy... after a few hours he didn't take it so I opened the cup and set him and it back in their cage. I come back 20 minutes later and the guppy is gone. of course the one that is taking guppies is growing larger having eaten another, and the other is just clueless :)

Hopefully he will catch a clue soon so I can relax about it.

Yes ... one of mine is eating trout. can't up load just now but will.

Adam 1 trout cut into 1/4 x 3/4 inch strips works great. Now to just cut up the rest and vacu seal it into manageable portions.

Yea, give the other one some space and keep offering about every two days she will come around.
