My big female Radix gave birth today and produced 12 babies that lived and 9 that didn't make it.
The surviving babies are..
3 albinos
1 snow
3 anerythristic
5 normal looking (possible hets)
There are 2 runts no bigger than a pencil lead :(

love the anerythristic's
The plump one with the crook in it's tail is really black, The dorsal stripe is so faint I can hardly see it.
should be interesting how that one turns out.
Thanks!

The 3 anerythristic are very nice. Is this radix a "designer" snake?

No she's a "double het" for Anery and albino, and since those two traits combined will produce snows, I guess that makes her a triple het:D

That always threw me off when people say "het for snow". I'm like, umm.... a snake can't be "het for snow". They can only be double het for anery and albino!

When I joined the forum I already had years of experience keeping and breeding garters but I didn't know jack about this stuff.
Now I have "newbies" admiring my knowledge in this subject. I keep telling them I don't deserve that. All I learned about morphs and genetics, I learned here for the most part.

If you need a babysitter, let me know. Or if you think the young ones should go away to summer camp, I can show them a good time in the Canadian Rockies. They're gorgeous.

Just about everyone was telling me, when the concinnus babies were born "all my babies eat within a day or two after birth"
I was like "mine never have... always took a week or two" and they did this time too. Didn't have any of them eat right away. Now I can hardly stop them from eating even if I offer them food every day.
It's early, and they were just fed the day they were born. What I mean is, they absorbed excess yolk and their "bellies" are well-filled. No need to be concerned about them not eating in the first week, or even two weeks. Takes that long for their metabolism to kick in and make them hungry.

Wayne,
Looking at that last picture. Is that snake in shed? Just noticing the dark banding in the tail area and more of it up front. Is it just the photo?
Great looking snake.

That is one of the newborns, Don't think it's in shed just yet.. But stranger things have happened.
