I just found my Iowa Albino radix dead in his cage.

Poor little guy shed last night and somehow got trapped inside his inverted skin.

The head of the shed was at his tail and his head was jammed inside the old skin clear down at the tail tip, this suffocated the poor guy.

Weirdest death I have ever seen yet...

very strange, and very sad. Sorry for your loss.

Someone else also posted a pic of a snake that was crawling into his old skin as he was shedding, making a perfect circle. Lucky that snake was found in time.

pretty sure that's what happened here as well.

I saw that happen once, but I got the shed off the snake in time.

Wayne,
You thread points out how dangerous sheds can be if not removed for an enclosure.
Most of my snakes seem to shed at night so that potential danger exists until I enter the snake room. Then it's a matter of finding them. My snakes like to shed in their hides(being modest, I guess)
This was such an tragic and unusual occurrence.

R.I.P. little radix. Tell my boys Scar and Krinkleback I said Hi.

Sorry for your loss.

I would have thought that he would have been able to breath through the shed. I would not have imagined that the shed was impermeable to O2 and CO2. I've seen photos of snakes going back into their shed but I have never seen one die that way. How sad!

maybe the tightness of the shed (having crawled back into it backward) prohibited breathing in a way similar to parking a car on a humans chest??

poor little guy... what a terrible way to lose a snake! Sorry for your loss...

hate to be a bother, but that actually looks like a nebraska albino (it's dark?) Iowa albinos are T negative, very light with pink eyes and no darkness... or maybe it's just the picture that makes him look dark!
