A friend out herping found a group of three small water snakes, two blotched water snakes, and one diamond-back water snake, all non-venomous, all very well behaved and easy to handle, and all about the same size as the garters in my baby-tank.
Although the herper who found them states that the water snakes take basically the same care as the garters, and that a deep water dish is all they require in a dry tank, I'm not sure how well they'll all get along.
Does anyone have experience keeping garters and nerodia together?

I wouldn't mix like that.
They as a rule don't live together in the wild.
Why do you want them together?

It's actually just a temporary situation until I can put together a suitable habitat. They were dumped on me with the statement of, 'either keep them, feed them to your kingsnake, or dump them in the river', and I'd like to keep them, but I won't have another tank for about a week.

It still seem too risky, even for a week. Can you just put them in a cheap plastic container for now?
Water snakes are a very cool animal. I would hate to see them used as food.;)

That's the best move for all parties involved. Thanks.
