I am from newfoundland, I love garters but I hate that this has happened.

To add to this I would like to say that I think the numbers will explode as frogs and toads have also been introduced to newfoundland and they have over populated many areas, thousands of either can be easily found in nearly every small pond or creek.

It says a lot for these garters. Hardy little beasts!!!
Quite interesting though - if you say that the amphibian population was introduced then having this accidental introduction of an amphibian eating specialists may just bring some benefits (despite there being a change to the balance of things).
But, the last thing anyone wants to see is another Guam.

Hey Greg,
Garter Snakes have entered Europe yet;)
There are rumors about different small populations in Germany,
but nothing serious.
Although an interesting article: The Snake is looking very similar to the erythristic ´sirtalis from Carolina and the ruler in the picture is to measure Centimeters.

There have been stories about a small population in Sweden, but that is probably just a myth.
