Amazing photos! Seems to me these subjects would be easy to spot with their colors. Our Easterns blend in nicely with their surroundings and are very difficult to see:D

Thanks for the warm welcome! We are quite spoiled here on the West Coast. Unfortunately, it's going to be a long winter.

Welcome! What a great way to introduce yourself!

Dang, that concinnus sure is bright. Hurts my eyes.:p

You can check out http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/general-talk/7090-concinnusmans-garters.html if you would like to see several other morphs of that subspecies. Yes, that's a blue concinnus in my avatar!

how can you tell the difference of a cal. red sided from a san fransisco garter?

California red-sideds have red bars or blotches between the stripes. San Francisco Garters have red (or orange) stripes between the mid-dorsal and lateral stripes. I don't have any tetrataenia pics for comparison. They are both gorgeous!

Here's an California red-sided (infernalis) and a Red-spotted (concinnus) for comparison. :)

TKS, your two snakes are incredible!

If I had to guess I would say that the concinnus is from the southern portion of their range? I'm just saying I noticed the colors tend to start looking more like infernalis if you find concinnus in the southern extremes of their range.
