Took my grandson out for a walk on Saturday at Indian Battle Park in Lethbridge, Alberta. Checked out the river, some birds, various beetles and what should come slithering along through the brush?

Nice little nature lesson. Love to see the young ones exposed in a positive fashion.

Rhea, JC was fascinated. My son, JC's dad, has a younger, smaller version at home. It's at the point where that one can eat small pinkies whole. Used to have to fillet the pinkie! JC's only problem is I need him to understand 'gentle' when handling snakes!

I was out riding the mountain bike today and i came across a Canadian red sided garter. I unfortunately saw it last minute and think i possibly ran over it. i stopped and picked it up and ran my finger down the spine, i didn't feel anything broken or crush so i might have only gotten a bit of his tail. The red on it wasn't as vibrant as some of the other one's have seen, but still a beautiful snake, unfortunately didn't have my phone on hand (left it in the car) Tomorrow when i go I'm going to bring it with me.
