I have two adult female radixes that have attitude problems. One is a very, very aggressive eater and the other freaks out when you hold her. Both of these traits are unacceptable her on the Ranch.
A disiplinary meeting was held with both snakes present.
At the direction of the Disipinary Board(me) both snake will be housed in the big female enclosure with the hopes that their attitudes will change.
So, 24 hours ago I placed both females in the other enclosure.
What a difference 24 hours and good role-modeling makes. Both girls came out to me today and behaved like real ladies.
"That was easy" :D

I have radix that was just given to me that is not a lady at all. She is so aggresive that she strikes at the glass tank she is in you walk by. She could use your lady method training LOL

I have noticed that different "room mates" will sometimes affect a snake's attitude

Maybe my little Snap could use some of that ;) She's in with more calm snakes but she's still extremely skittish and I cant hold her away from her tank. You'd think she'd realize I'm not going to hurt her since she eats out of my hand. Oh well, I just have some crazy little snakes :D

Haha nicely done Steve.
I've also noticed that roomates seem to make for more calm captives.

Here are the two beasts in question.
It's amazing at how calm these two have become. I can reach in and touch, rub, scratch then whenever I want.
They don't bolt or even show any signs that it's unacceptable. That's a complete turn around from where they were at.
This is Lucky's daughter:

This is a wild caught female from my backyard. Now she's a lady
getting ready to shed.

Gorgeous :D .... groups definately have a calming effect. My 'Spazz' hardly ever lives up to his name anymore .... and he was settled by the same approach.

Those are some pretty little ladies :D
I wish Snap would calm down like that, she's in the enclosure with Runt, Tiny and Ember and they are all really tame. Runt's still a little skittish, though, if you touch her unexpectedly or move quickly where she can see you. Snap is fine until you pick her up, she acts as if I were trying to kill her. What a weird snake  All of the other snakes know I wouldn't ever hurt them for any reason.

Very pretty girls, as are all of them at the ranch:D
I could do with sending 'Lily on a little transatlantic holiday to the ranch! She still freaks out when she needs to be picked up. Or touched. Or have you go near her. ;)

I was feeding this group of girls last night. I had a few fuzzies left over and thought these ladies would enjoy them. They did enjoy them but A fight did breakout.
I had given LG(Lucky's Girl) a fuzzy and she had eaten it. She then went looking for another. One of her roommates had just finished her fuzzy. I was watching LG to see how she was going to behave. She launched herself at the other snake and grabbed her by the head. I had to separate the two and put LG in a timeout container.
She's a very demanding young lady.

Things are going very well in this enclosure.
LG and Shade are doing extremely well. LG still has some feeding issues but for the most part it's a calm group.
I've even seen a change in a girl I call "Enforcer" http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/general-talk/5630-attacked.html
She must be mellowing with age.

Well Steve, you saw my angry radix video. Except for the teasing on my part in the video, this behavior is a daily occurrence with that little spitfire. Once he smells the food and takes a bite, he deflates and calmly eats, then awaits the next bite with better manners. Next day, I get the same greeting. One ticked off radix striking at me repeatedly.
Amy has done that on occasion, a strike or two, but that's because he's blind and I startled him. Once he feels my hand, and knows it's me, he's OK. In fact he's very sweet.
Not that one little one I have. He knows it's me and wants me to back the heck up and leave him alone. Well, I would leave him alone but I have to feed him.
Just goes to show you, captive born and raised, or wild caught. Doesn't make any difference in how tame or wild they can be. Each one has a unique disposition. This one wants nothing to do with me and isn't afraid to let me know that.

So, Steve has a little Boot Camp for snakes going...lol. I believe that some of us need to send our snakes to "Steve's Boot Camp for Snakes" and have their attitudes adjusted...Selena needs a little time on the ranch. Like Chantel's snake...Selena is the sweetest girl until you pick her up...then she acts like you are going to kill her. Well, she is still pretty skiddish in her tank too...but she's getting better. Of course, she has never attempted to strike and she has never musked...she is just a scaredy-snake! Still, I bet time on the ranch would help!

Kind of like Snap. If you even touch her she acts like your murdering her. But, unlike Selena, she poops and musks until nothing can come out anymore. She'll act calm and this is usually when I get her a "diaper" because every single time she gets calm, she unleashes a huge load of poo. :D
