9/24/10 Talk about a lucky find!!! I have been walking at lunch around a walking/biking trail lately to help get back in shape and the other day I found a ringneck smashed by a bike on the trail. The trail cuts through a rolling hill area with wild tall grass prairie, with small creeks in the valleys, perfect garter habitat. Today I was walking on the trail and I saw a snake on the trail and I figured it was probably a garter killed by a bike, but as I got closer it started to move so I ran up and caught it, thinking I would have a look at it and then let it go, but once I had it in my hands I realized how gorgeous it was and could not believe it, I was stunned. I had heard there was a wild population of red radix in the area, but in the 42 yrs that I have lived in the area I have never seen one by where I live, but apparently they live right by where I work. Additionally this snake is a female, not sure who I will breed her to this spring but it will either be the blue axanthic or the iowa albino, or possibly the wild caught nebraska albino. She has a really orange dorsal stripe and redish brown background color. What an amazing find!!!

Thanks all, pretty stoked indeed about finding this gal. I catch and release, or see dozens of garters every year and I have never seen one this gorgeous. I'm giving her a POM treatment and when she feeds I will de-worm her, and if all goes well she will be clean as a whistle and fat going in to brumation and come out in the spring ready to make some pretty babies. I am definately going to be walking every day at lunch from now till snow, I just got new motivation to exercise at lunch consistantly. I run and lift weights in the evenings but walking 3 miles everyday at lunch helps a lot and it's good to enjoy the weather right now too, and if I see some garters...well that's just icing on the cake.

Gprgeous! She reminds me of the colors in an inlay on an antique mahogany desk! (Mahogany, ebony, maple etc.) Very nice, earthy but rich.

To be completely honest with you Joe, I almost feel guilty and have had second thoughts if I should have just taken a picture and released her right where I found her, I just hope that I can provide her a good enviroment and get her feeding and doing well. Of course my selfish egomaniac designer morph control freak side is thinking about all the combos and how they will look ect. ect. ect. lol Oh well I am going to do my best to keep her happy and healthy, and hopefully she will give me babies next spring and then I will be very happy:D

Thanks for your vote of confidence but if I were in his shoes, I keep her.;)

I'm upset because I thought it was clear to all the radixes that the T.radix Ranch was the demarcation point for all of them.:D

Thanks guys, I wish it were easy for me (and cheaper) to ship to Canada and Europe, becuase I certainly get a lot of inquiries and there definately is a lot of interest in garters outside the US, over here in the US they sometimes get poo pooed by the python and boa guys.

Is this the Jason I think it is? Your avitar is killer, and funny too considering your name, it has to be you, you can't hide behind that mask forever, unveil yourself, let go of your anger, lol.
