My Favorite Time Is?

I thought a thread telling about our favorite time with our snakes may be interesting.

My favorite time would have to be baby/young snake feeding time.
Watching all the different personalities and eating styles develop. Having them come to me, wanting to be hand fed. Being used as a napkin after a piece of food was eaten.
To come and rest on my arm after a good meal and their belly is full.
Then to look in on them later and to see sleeping full snakes.

I too enjoy feeding babies, but I must confess I also like the break when they get bigger and the feeding frequency reduces.

I agree with both of you, feeding my babies is a nice time for me, but I also love "cuddle time" with my snakes. It's usually with Mama or Snakey. Mama is usually the one getting the cuddles, though, since she'll actually sit there and hang out where as Snakey goes for the blanket exploring. :rolleyes:

I love watching Abby prowl around her enclosure, but I think my favorite time is when shes out being handled, and she finds a comfortable spot inside my sleeve or in my lap to just chill out and relax.

How can feeding time be a chore? I have no experience of caring for more than 4 babies but I cant wait to feed them. The day after I feed them I start getting excited for the next day. And of course, the babies cant wait either. I love seeing Snap get all fierce with her worm pieces :D

Umm... Well today comes to mind. For once ALL the snakes ate until they're well stuffed. Usually some eat one day, then a day or two later others eat.

But earlier today, all the adults and all the babies ate very well on tilapia and pinkies.

Then the few hours after that, they all look so satisfied and are all lounging under the basking lamps. That's the moment I like. They look so satisfied and content and I have piece of mind that they are taken care of.:D

I wish Ember and Snap were content with what I give them. I probably overfeed them a bit because hey act like they've never eaten in their whole lives and of course it makes me feel bad when I go to feed Mama and Snakey the leftovers... They never ever look satisfied. Even after eating over 6 pieces of worm the size of their head they act like they cant stop eating or they'll die. Little gluttons.:rolleyes:

Yeah, they played "how dare you miss feeding time 2 days in a row!" today. I broke my tooth, though so I couldn't feed them and it was getting infected... Couldn't feed anyone till tonight. I got bit more than 10 times in one minute. They were soooo hungry they couldn't even aim for the pretty large chunk of worm on my finger ;) Got some video of them eating at least.

I have to add something to this. I'm sure many of you have seen it.
It's that yawn after eating. You know the one I'm talking about. Prolonged mouth open and with it they flex the upper lips.

If they had arms and hands they'd be patting their bellies.

Yeah, I saw Ember do that for the first time today after eating some pieces of fuzzy :D it was going to be the meal for the big snakes but they rejected it so I cut it small and gave it to Ember and Snap (the only bottomless pits of all the babies :rolleyes:) Ember ate the most and was "oozing" around and did the cute little yawn before resting his head on a plant and basking. he's probably happy he learned how yummy pinkies are ;)

Yeah, I know that moment. It's quite amazing how they move their "lips". Not something you would normally expect a snake could do if you didn't know snakes all that well. I could almost swear that if they wanted to pucker for a kiss, they could. And hey, maybe even do impressions.:p

Yeah, they are bottomless pits. Their siblings that are still with me are the same way. Just awesome eaters and jeez, growing so fast!

Yep, they're such bottomless pits that they nip my finger all the time because they want food. Ember has the biggest appetite, but he's huge compared to Snap.

I wonder how that happened. They were nearly the same size when I sent them. Well, I guess ember was always a bit bigger. They are siblings though, born at the same time and born about the same size:cool:

But hey, some of the 3 stripe one's I have left are outpacing the single striped one's even though they all eat about the same. You just can't figure who's going to grow bigger or faster regardless of how they eat.

But anyway, we're losing focus here. I'd love to hear about other people's favorite moments and of course, pics of those moments are even better!

A recent favourite happened two nights ago. Suzy's second feed after her 3 month fast. I've never seen so much drool!!!! :eek: It was like "I don't care what it is! It smells like food and I'm biting it and it's not getting away!!!" :D

Ember tends to eat more than Snap though ;) She's always too busy acting really tough with her food while ember just takes it sweetly with the occasional nip on my finger. Snap always ends up biting me hard... Another reason for liking feeding time... My finger gets snake mouth massages every other day :D

Not so fun when you're dealing with a huge 3.2 foot female big enough to eat two adult mice, and a head twice the width of your thumb. Luckily that girl is very smart and considerate. She's always careful to assess the situation and calculate carefully so as not to bite me. She's very polite that way.

Babies tend to be compulsive, competitive, combative, and bite anything that smells like food but hey, that's good survival tactic if you think about it.

Yeah, I don't mind the finger massage with the babies, I wouldn't dare try it with Snakey though I already know he likes to attack anything that smells like food. I have fed Mama by hand and she gently takes it from me and is polite, when there's a pit of length between my hand and the food she strikes viciously. I'm not sure if I'd let snap eat out of my hand when she's older, she's such a show off. :rolleyes: She bites my finger, pulls back, aims, strikes at the food and nips my finger again before "fighting" with her food and smacking it on the logs and finally... She swallows it and looks for more. I wish I could get a good video of it, it'd be a great action movie.

I have to change my favourite time to right now... Having Tiny sitting with me, sleeping on my leg. Nothing is cuter than a baby snake coiled up on my leg sleeping. Tiny is almost like Mama, loves being held and likes to sleep on me :)

Well guys, I had one of my favorite moments tonight. It's near time for lights out. everybody has full bellies and these three were sound asleep under the warmth of the basking lamp. They looked so content. So satisfied. After a few seconds, they became aware of my presence, woke up and simultaneously, they all looked up at me, looked me right in the eye, and paused. A favorite moment indeed.

I just wish they didn't have to grow up. They are doing so, faster than I care for. (12-15 inches now!) I guess I'll just have to see to it that my adults make more babies soon. It won't come soon enough and these few babies I kept are my only comfort at this time when my favorite adults are in deep sleep brumating. I miss them so much! I knew there was a reason that I didn't ship all of the babies out. I held back thinking I might regret it. I was wrong. I don't regret it. I'm glad I did keep a few.:)

Right after this pic was taken and they looked up at me, they scurried off to bed as if I they were kids that just got caught watching TV past bed time.:D
