Over here on the NY/CT border, we had about a half hour of heavy rain, then that was it. Kinda disappointing when they promised "nasty weather". I guess, NY city area and Long Island got it worse.

hey guys
I've just got a moment
it was an awesome and scary five minutes
I've never seen a sky that colour, and I've never experienced a storm of such violence that came and went so fast. I ran upstairs to close some windows when the first drops came down, and by the time I got to the first window, it was like someone was throwing buckets of water on the window screen and there already was a puddle.
I am thankful that it didn't come any closer. We have some huge trees nearby.

Glad everyone seems ok, I checked with a friend in Glenmont, OH and he said the tornado hit about 20 miles north!!

That kind of thing usually happens when we have an unusually cold spring in the NW. Seems like the number of years between tornados is getting fewer and the size, intensitiy, and damage from the tornadoes has been getting worse in the past decade.
Ours are actually called "cold-core funnels". Had a big one a couple of years ago. It was about 1/4 mile wide and tore a path about 2 miles long. Uprooted 100 year old huge fir trees, lifted them up, moved them over, and laid them down!
My best friend of many years had that tornado go right into his house. It pulled up huge old trees next to his house and deposited them some feet away. Also ripped up a picket fence that went all around his house, only about 10 feet from the walls. A billboard about 50 feet from his house, supported by huge steel "I" beams, was bent over like it was tin foil. Deposited the fence scattered across an acre of land. Didn't touch a single shingle or do any damage to his house but the hail (about half-inch) left his car dimpled. Others weren't so lucky. Newer, more sturdy homes had their roofs ripped completely off. Wind speed was about 120mph and his house was untouched. Amazing.

We're getting another tropical storm it seems for the next few days. Not alot of wind is forcast but alot of rain. It's been basically a steady rain most of today with much more for the next few days. From the weather map, it looks like Long Island may get a whole lot more!

Where I am, Danbury CT, we have had at least 3" of rain today. The worst is yet to come late tonight and tomorrow morning. Wind is picking up and is expected to peak around 3 or 4 am. This is the remainder of tropical storm, Nicole.

Wow. It's usually pretty cool and wet this time of year in the Pacific Northwest but we had a late start to summer, and a very cool summer.
It's been sunny and upper 70's-low 80's for most of the past week. More of the same for the 7-day. Yippie!
3 inches of rain is certainly a deluge. Try 12 inches in 10 days. That's what we had at my house a couple of years ago, in Nov. The interstate was under 10 feet of water by the time it was over.

We got just shy of 4" of rain yesterday/last night. It was a bit breezy, but no strong winds. Before this rain things were starting to dry out, so we are thankful for this rain. :D

The rain here has also been a welcome site. We desperatley needed this. My plants were looking pretty thirsty:rolleyes:
We had quite the deluge yesterday, however today the flooding is not as bad.
