I've been kinda quiet lately because my internet connection has, well, fizzled out of existrence. I'm posting this from our local, friendly public library. We ARE planning on switching internet providers SOON but, until that happens, I'm gonna have to carry around my forum passwords with me. ( Because I can't remember them all! )
Anyway, yesterday I went to feed my garters only to find out my tiny, evil one, Saphira, had died sometime while I was gone this weekend. In spite of the fact she was a little hellion, I'm still rather bummed. I'm also kinda mad at myself for buying her from some faceless dude on the internet and not from knowledgable, friendly people like you guys who give a damn where their babies go. I should have known better! UGH!

I'm so sorry about your loss, Devon. Do you know what had happened to her? Or is it just a mystery? :(

Devon, I'm sorry to hear you lost Saphira. How sad. Sometimes the little ones just go and we never know why. I lost a few of them this year that way. They had been thriving since last August (2009)

Garter snakes(especially T.s.parietalis-Red Sided Garter snake) are probably the most studied snake in the world but yet there is so much we don't know about them.
As tough as they are, they are also fragile.
Many times they don't show any symtoms of illness or injury until its too late.

Ditto.
I would hate to leave them that long, but if I did, I'd turn off their heat as a precaution.
How's the baby red spot I sent to you? Doing OK I hope?

I don't think I'll buy another blue unless I can see it in person and talk to the seller face to face. I'm beginning to really question who I bought her from, especially from everything I've read here. I mean there's no way to be certain the guy wasn't one of those people who grabs every wild snake from his local and tries to sell it. Sigh! Live and learn. grumble!
Ruby is doing fine. Hail and healthy as a horse. Eating like one too. She gives me a lot of smiles!

I'm not really sure what you're saying or what it is you've "lived and learned". Sounds like you're wanting to place blame somewhere but it's really not unheard of for babies that seem healthy to just suddenly die. That happens regardless of who you got it from, CB or WC. If you received the snake in apparent good health and it's what you paid for, then why blame the seller? This could have happened with a snake purchased from Don, Scott F, myself, or anyone else.
What was the last thing he ate and when? How much? What position did you find him in? (upside down, open or closed mouth, etc.) There's a lot of questions that if answered, can give clues as to the possible cause but often it is just a mystery and no one is to blame.
