Not sure why you are asking where she's from. Albino Checkereds were sold all over the US.
Where did you get her from?

I can't even tell if it's a checkered for sure but probably is.

From what I could gather Steve, Dangermouse wanted to know what kind of garter it is, then turned around and told us what kind it is. I'm not sure what Dangermouse is asking.

But hey, where's our manners.

Welcome, Dangermouse! good to have you here.:D

Oh hey, look what I found Thamnophis marcianus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thamnophis_marcianus)

Seems to me like one of our own created a stub on wikipedia. Notice the links they provided. One of them being this forum.

Well she's homozygous for albino obviously. If you breed her to another male albino or a normal looking snake that is "het" for albino there's good chance of producing albino offspring. If you breed her to a plain normal checkered that isn't het for albino (a normal that didn't have an albino or het albino parent) then all the offspring will look normal but will carry the albino gene. In other words, they will be "hets" capable of passing on the albino gene and producing albino offspring. Often times if your snake is the only albino available, people will breed to a normal then raise the offspring and breed them back to the mother. Such a breeding usually produces more albinos.

I know that's a bit confusing. Maybe this link will help you get up to speed.

It would really only have to be about 16 months old or any sexually mature male smaller or about equal in size to her. It could even be a normal looking snake as long as it had an albino mother or father. To increase your chances of a mating, a cool down period (with fewer daylight hours) of a couple of months for both of them, followed by a warm up and increased daylight hours for both of them, before introducing the two, would be a good idea.

If the male is normal looking but het. for albino and the female is albino then you will have a percentage of babies that are albino. I don't know the percentage but I'm sure someone will post that info.
I had that exact situation occur this year. I learned very quickly that the male was het. for albino when 1 baby albino was born.
If the male is normal and the female is albino then all the babies will be het. for albinism.
Hope that answers you question.
