As I walked through the big snake room I opened and greeted most of my snakes. I came to the large male enclosure. I say large, as in size and in the amount of males I house in it.
I noticed most (approximately 20) of my boys were in the unheated hide(they have 3 hides in this enclosure). They were all looking out and I thought I would get some guy time with them. I opened the west door to the enclosure and sat down on the floor so I could be closer to them. I then started talking to them as I always do. A few of them started to come out to me, as I was only a few inches away.
Then, for some unknown reason Midnite bolted out of the hide and headed towards the other end of the enclosure. I swear everyone followed him. He rounded the far turn and came back towards me with all his buddies in hot pursuit. As they came to the open door they all proceeded to jump out onto the floor. It was a mass escape "shook and awe" style.
I scrambled to get everyone(which I did) back in their home.
I've never seen anything like it.
They sure caught me off guard.

I just got back into the male enclosure and everything was fine. Midnite came out to see me and all was normal.

The more I work with these male radixes the more I love them. They are not near as touchy-feely as the girls.
They don't like to be handled and once picked up want back in their enclosure but they're my men.

Would love a video of that scene. Can you try again and tape it?:D

Very amusing just picturing that. Something similar happens when I open a plastic tub with babies in it. If just one of them panics and leaps out, the rest seem to follow suit and then I have to play "52 snake pickup" while they are all scrambling to get away. I swear I'll never buy "shoebox" sized tubs again. Nope. Much deeper next time.

I hope to never be put in that position again. Let alone having a video camera in my hand at the time.
I think it was all part of some master plan. Maybe they're testing security. Taking notes. Formulating a plan for something bigger. Probing the security perimeter for weaknesses.
Paranoid, who said anything about being paranoid. I'm not paranoid
They're up to something I just know it.
Midnite, he's the key to this. He may have to be moved to segregation until I can get some to talk. Offering a couple extra pinkies to the right snake will usually pay-off with information.:D

I fed my men tonight. They have a new ploy.
They like to hang out of the open door and slowly move towards the floor.
If I get them a piece of worm they pull back into the enclosure and finish eating. If not, they hit the floor and wait for some food.
It will be hard to see a couple of these boys leave on Monday.
Shipping out 3 female and 2 males. It's a hard thing to put my babies in a box and hand it off to a perfect stranger. They will be out in harms way for 16 hours.
I won't sleep Monday night.
