How do you sex your snake? I have a 6-8 inch baby and would like to know it's gender.

If you could kindly post a photo of the snakes tail section on here, we can make a reasonably good ID from that.

Popping, probing or visually. I prefer to do it visually, it's the least intrusive method and there's no risk of accidentally hurting the snake in the process. This methods works best on slightly older animals, though.

It's got a skinny tail, but currently I can't post pics. Get them up ASAP. I know what I'm supposed to do, but what am I to look for when I Pop/Probe/Visually make an observation...

That's what I thought because he was so skinny, but then again I don't know how to tell?

Here's a link to a thread that might help. It will also show you the kind of photos to take and post that will help us sex your snake.
Very nice looking snake.

He looks like An eastern ribbon to me but location will narrow it down

definitely not a ribbon... it's a garter. The photos are not indicative of any species for sure, but he looks like a t.s.parietalis to me. That snake is too small to visually sex just by looking at it.... to visually sex that snake at all you would need good detailed shots of the sides and bottom of the tail. Even then, it's debatable... You can only be confident about visually sexing a mature adult snake. I am not sure how everyone's looking at him and saying "male"... there is no way to tell! I have young females that look just like that

I never said I was sure its a male lol all I'm saying is based on appearance I would lean slightly towards it being male at the moment. A different pic could change my mind completely.

BTW I don't think its a t.s.parietalis, I think it's a common or eastern, but I don't know.

How do I sex? now I don't think that's any of your business.:p
No, but seriously, I do it visually even on newborns. It's not that dang hard, and I do have critics to my method but hey, to me the differences are so obvious, even if they are newborn.
The problem I'm having with sexing your snake is that it is not attracted to me.. wait, no, what I meant is, I can't tell from those pics where the cloaca is located. That's important.
