My very first conccinus (sp?) arrived in the mail from our mutual friend from Vancouver, Wa. She's beautiful! And not one nibble or hiss did she fire in my direction! ( Unlike Saphira!) I had to scrub out and reset up her new digs. But while I transfered her I tried to get some quick shots. It was raining outside and she was being VERY SHY! But I got one halfway decent shot. So far she's very laid back and seems more interested in being in my warm hand. She's set up now in her new ten gallon tank, equipped with several hides, a heat lamp on top, a plastic bush to hide in and all. So basically she's got her own jungle gym. She's so sweet!
Any suggestions for a name??????

Update: I was just letting her settle in while I checked the internet and hubby came up to the tank to peer in at her.
"Hey! You know your new snake just shed? Oooh. She's pretty now!"

Congratulations! She's is such an adorable snake. Since your other snake is named Saphira (kind of like Saphire) you could call your new snake Ruby. She is pretty gem-like. :) - Just a suggestion.

That would be a good name, it has reddish spots too so it fits :D

Hubby and I were just talking about characters named "Ruby" in some of our favorite movies. He was talking about the character in "The 5th Element". I was thinking of the one in "Cold Mountain", you know, "Ruby, with the eyes that sparkle".

I know that movie! My mom used to watch it at least 5 times a day. I'm not even kidding. I probably know every single word in the movie.

Dangit Devon, you sent me a PM but I can't reply. Your box is full!
And, just to let you know it's "Concinnus". (Kuhn-sin-us)Translated from Latin, it means "Stylistically congruous; pretty/pleasing";) If you ever forget, the translation and spelling are right there in my name and custom title.:D

I got some better pics of my girl I've christened "Ruby". ( Thanks guys! ) She's a little hard to position but the camera loves her! She's such a sweetie! I'm not used to a garter with a good dispositon. What do I do? Oh yeah! Enjoy her!

That's it. I want her back. She's too dang cute and pretty. Shipping money for her return is in the mail on it's way to you Devon.
Of course, I'm only kidding. Or not.:p
Excellent name. I like it.:D
Have you tried feeding her yet? she loves night crawler or fish pieces.(silversides and steelhead trout) I imagine she'd probably go for fish scented pinky parts but I never bothered. She was growing so fast on fish and worms alone. Will eat right off the tip of your finger:D
All my concinnus are like that. Sweet as can be. I've been saying it, but a lot of people have had somewhat mean concinnus. I've never had a hostile one that likes to bite - ever. Even WC.
I'm so happy I could provide you with your first "sweet" garter and that you are so pleased with her. makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.:p
Makes for good PR. (shameless plug coming up) Now... I got a shipload of 2010 babies eating well and ready to go.. who wants some? PM me!

I'm gonna try feeding her tonight. I have no access to silversides. Guppies, rosies and earthworms but no silversides. I'm gonna try the earthworms tonight. ( I usually go back and forth between earthworms and pinkie parts with my garters. ) I would have tried to feed her sooner but they've been loving me too much at work! ( Translation: 3 people took off at once and I've been covering. Other translation : What life away from work???? Friends? I have friends???? Although the paychecks are nice! )
You just felt sorry for me having 3 feisty garters and wanted me to find out what a good one was like! Give me credit though, I still stuck with the little buggers in
spite of their attitudes!
( I just wanna pinch Ruby's cute little red cheeks but she's too small for that! )

Snakes with attitudes... not always a bad thing.
I'm sure she'll eat worms for you. sometimes she's a bit nervous and won't eat right away. If she's curled up in a corner or something just drop some pieces in front of her. She is a little porker once she realizes it's feeding time.
Might want to check the supermarket for trout or some other safe fish. She does also love trout from the grocery store meant for human consumption. She's not too picky and likes to eat large quantities.
Hasn't been more than 7 days since she got very stuffed on fish and worms anyway. I'm sure she's not starving but I'll bet she'll eat for you. I have a feeling she'll eat pinky pieces, scented or not.

Well, I dangled a diced piece of fat nightcrawler in front of her from a pair of hemostats tonight. It took about 2 tongue flicks for her to decide it was food and BAM! GIMME THAT THANG! 2 pieces later she decided that was quite enough quit and I had to give what was left over to Bogo. They were really BIG pieces. ( Rutter's gas station sells the fattest nightcrawlers! )
I LOVE snakes that you can hand feed! My Kenyan will take a fuzzy right outta my hand as gentle as you please and so will my milk snake although not quite so gently. Draco, my huge corn will take a rat pup from the tongs, when I hold him but then he needs his privacy to finish the job and properly enjoy his meal.
Ruby is gonna be a fun one! I can't wait to show her off to my vet!
